Album Notes
Dorothy Cresswell is a mother, grandmother, and teacher, and songwriter. She lives in Belchertown, MA. Most of these songs were inspired by true events in her family and in her many years teaching at Leverett Elementary School. Whether a song is fact or fiction, her songs celebrate the wonders of nature, the diversity of life, and the potential for all of us to get along. Now that she is retired, she is finding new ways to continue singing and teaching, including the Happy Valley Children’s Chorus, which is included on the CD.
The songs are about everything from loosing a first tooth to losing a beloved pet. They are closely tied to real life, although a few are imaginary, a few are serious, and a few are pretty funny.

These were the first two responses to the album:

My parents are up for the weekend this weekend. I was listening to the CD at home and they heard it and absolutely love it. They are hoping to buy a copy or two when it’s released. In fact, My whole family is really into it; my kids sing along and plead for "one more song", and Amelia (my wife) gets misty. Great job with the writing, singing, and playing! (Garrett Sawyer, recording engineer at Northfire Recording Studio)

I love the CD! ... I loooove the Squashmuck song. I'm going to make a point of memorizing the whole thing; I bet it would be a great thing to have up my sleeve at babysitting bedtimes or the like. ...My huge extended family on my dad's side has a family reunion every memorial day weekend which includes a campfire and singing, and our favorite songs are the ones where one relative does many verses and we all come in for rousing choruses, and we do "laughter" well. I think we'd nail it. (Sophie Crafts---the one who wants to come to Asheville!)

Love it!
This is such a joyful, fun, and heartwarming CD! When I first put it on, I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful all of the voices sounded. Then as I listened to the catchy melodies and thoughtful lyrics, I was hooked! Maybe it is because Dorothy was a kindergarten teacher, that her songs are so attuned to the needs and thoughts of children. These songs are just so charming and I wish I had more little kids in my life so that I could share the CD with them. Really, if you are a parent or a grandparent or an aunt or an uncle, this CD would be such a great gift to give to the child/children in your life. Also, if you are a music teacher, or know a child who takes music lessons, they could listen to these songs and also get the accompanying song book. It would be so inspiring to incorporate these songs into their current repertoires. On the other hand, here I am, long past the age of childhood, and every day there is a different "Curious Songs for Curious Kids" song going through my head. So, even if you don't have a child in your life, go get this CD anyway and listen to it. It'll put a big smile on your face and you'll suddenly feel so happy!
