ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Veteran bluegrass musician, Doug Flowers (formerly of Little Roy & Lizzy Show, Clinton Gregory, Betty Fisher), hits another home run with this All-Star ensemble. The CD features Favorite songs, songwriters, and singers.
Sam Bush, Marty Rabon, Donna Ulisse, Scott Vestal, Tim Stafford, Jeff White, Cody Kilby, Mike Bub, Randy Hayes, Don Rigsby, Tony Arata, Dustin Benson, Lisa Shaffer,Jason Roller,Gaven Largent,Justin Moses, Jim Iler,Chris Brown, Rickey Rakestraw,Brandon Henson,Torey Flowers, and Tabor Flowers Henson all lend their talents for this project.

I bought The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” for my dad for Christmas in 1972. I loved the concept of getting great pickers and singers together to record great songs. This project started as a similar idea; to get a group of my Favorite singers, songwriters, and pickers together, almost like a jam session, and record and just have fun making music. Sometimes that means you sing, and sometimes others do. It means sometimes you take a break, and sometimes, others do. Scott Vestal, my co-producer, was on board and we selected the songs and put together a team of All-Stars to make this dream come true.
The Songs
1. The South (Douglas O. Flowers-B.M.I., Robert Gerald Smith- B.M.I. Melody Roundup Music, Scott Vestal-BMI) This song captures pretty much how I feel about growing up in the South! Lead Vocal- Doug Flowers, Tenor-Don Rigsby.
Scott Vestal-banjo/bass, Cody Kilby-guitar, Jason Roller- fiddle, Gaven Largent-resonator guitar, Doug Flowers-mandolin

2. Sometimes the Moon Don’t Shine (Lisa Shaffer-KLMS Music Inc. ASCAP-- John Goodwin-Queens Knight Music BMI Admin. by BMG Rights Mgt. (US )LLC. New Grass Revival made an early impression on me and what an honor to have one of my heroes, Sam Bush, play slide mandolin on this cut. This song has a “Bluesy Grass” groove to it, and Lisa sings and writes as good as anyone! Lisa Shaffer –Lead Vocal. Tim Stafford-Low Tenor vocal, Doug Flowers-Baritone vocal. Sam Bush- slide mandolin, Scott Vestal-banjo, Tim Stafford-guitar, Mike Bub-bass, Justin Moses- fiddle/dobro, Chris Brown-drums, Doug Flowers-mandolin,

3. Girl from the Canyon (Jonathan Edwards Copyright A Side Music LIC OBO Castle Hill Music) This is one of my favorites from the J.D. Crowe era. I have always loved Jonathan Edwards writing and singing. Jim “Dawg” Iler does another great job on this song and I was really happy to have 2 former New South members on the project in Don and Randy. Randy worked with Keith Whitley in his country band too.
Jim Iler-Lead Vocal, Don Rigsby-Tenor & Baritone Vocal. Scott Vestal-banjo,-Dustin Benson-guitar, Randy Hayes-bass-, Jason Roller- fiddle, Doug Flowers-mandolin

4. Picture I still Carry (John Pennell-Solargrass Music, BMI, Admin. By Bug Music/BMG/Bumblebee -Matt Lindsey-Copyright Universal Music Group.)
I first heard this song when John Pennell gave me a copy with the late, great, Harley Allen singing it. I was blown away by the words and his singing. Jeff and Donna really do a great job on this song. Lead Vocal- Jeff White, Harmony Vocal-Donna Ulisse. Scott Vestal-banjo, Cody Kilby-guitar, Mike Bub-bass, Justin Moses- fiddle/dobro, Doug Flowers-mandolin

5. Hello to Grace Today (Douglas O. Flowers-BMI) Marty Raybon is one of the greatest singers of the last 30 years. His work in the Country Band, Shenandoah, is legendary. Marty first impressed me when I saw him in the 70’s when I was working with Betty Fisher and he was with his Family, American Bluegrass Express. It’s an honor to have him sing one that I wrote! Lead Vocal-Marty Raybon, Donna Ulisse- Harmony. Scott Vestal-banjo, Cody Kilby-guitar, Mike Bub-bass, Jason Roller- fiddle, Doug Flowers-mandolin

6. I Need to be Heard (Lisa Shaffer-KLMS Music Inc. ASCAP, Tony Stampley-Stampley-Gambell Music, BMI) I love this song about a song….how true that we need to dust them off and play them again. Lisa Shaffer–Lead Vocal, Tim Stafford-Low Tenor, Doug Flowers-Baritone.
Scott Vestal-banjo, Tim Stafford-guitar, Mike Bub-bass, Justin Moses- fiddle/dobro, Doug Flowers-mandolin

7. Will You Be Loving Another Man (Lester Flatt/Bill Monroe) Copyright BMG PLATINUM SONGS and PEER INTERNATIONAL Ltd.)
I got to see Flatt and Scruggs in Augusta, GA when I was 3. I loved the recordings of the classic Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys Band featuring Bill, Lester, Earl, Chubby, and Howard (Cedric), when I was about 5 years old. I was instantly hooked on the sound and have been trying to play this music since. This song, one of my favorite songs from that era, was the first song that featured Earl Scruggs on an up-tempo break. Lead Vocal-Doug Flowers, Tenor Vocal-Don Rigsby. Scott Vestal-banjo, Cody Kilby-guitar, Mike Bub-bass, Justin Moses- fiddle, Doug Flowers-mandolin

8. Your Stepping Stone (Bozo Darnell, Major Luper Copyright CENTRAL SONGS ADO BEECHWOOD MUSIC CORPORATION)
Jim Iler and I met in 1981 at Georgia Southern. Our mutual respect and love of the Stanley Brothers, Keith Whitley and Ricky Skaggs drew us together musically. When J.D. Crowe released the Hall of Fame album, I thought it didn’t get any better. Keith Whitley loved George Jones, and Jim Iler loved George and Keith. Here he does what I think is a fine tribute to them with this remake!
Jim Iler- Lead Vocal- Tenor Vocal-Don Rigsby, Rickey Rakestraw-Baritone Vocal. Scott Vestal-banjo, Dustin Benson-guitar, Randy Hayes-bass , Jason Roller- fiddle, Doug Flowers-Mandolin

9. Lonely Ends Where Love Begins (William Austin, Donald Pfrimmer, Lisa Shaffer Copyright Egbg Music, Klms Music Inc, And Songs Of Platinum Pen)
Lisa Shaffer –Lead Vocal, Doug Flowers-Baritone vocal, Rickey Rakestraw- Low Tenor vocal. Scott Vestal-banjo, Tim Stafford-guitar, Mike Bub-bass, Justin Moses- fiddle, Doug Flowers-mandolin. I love Lisa’s writing and this cut is one of my favorites. Lisa had a #1 song in bluegrass with this song as recorded by Darin and Brooke Aldridge.

10. Another Town (Tom. T. Hall- Copyright Sony/ATV Acuff-Rose Music)
Besides the original Bluegrass Band, no other group influenced me more than J. D. Crowe and The New South. Loved them with Ricky and Tony, loved them with Keith. For the first time, I could play bluegrass for my friends and not get kidded about it.
Jim Iler- Lead Vocal- Tenor Vocal- Randy Hayes, Baritone Vocal- Rickey Rakestraw Scott Vestal-banjo, Dustin Benson-guitar, Randy Hayes-bass-, Jason Roller- fiddle, Doug Flowers-mandolin

11. Dreaming with My Eyes Wide Open (Tony Arata, Copyright EMI APRIL MUSIC INC and SONY/ATV HARMONY)
Tony Arata is one of the greatest songwriters ever, and his song, The Dance, is a classic for all-time. Tony is just the same as he was when he, Jim Iler, Gerald Smith, and I were all attending Georgia Southern College back in the early 1980’s and making music at night. It is an honor to have him do one of his #1 songs; a song that Clay Walker took to the top of the Country charts. The great singer/songwriter, Donna Ulisse lends her talents.
Lead Vocal-Tony Arata, Harmony vocals-Donna Ulisse. Scott Vestal-banjo, Cody Kilby-guitar, Mike Bub-bass, Justin Moses fiddle/dobro, Doug Flowers-mandolin.

12. Her Cheating Kind (Douglas O. Flowers-BMI, Robert Gerald Smith- B.M.I.,Melody Roundup Music, John Eaton) I decided to include this song because it is the first song that I ever co-wrote. Gerald, the late John Eaton, and I were working musically together at Georgia Southern in the early 1980’s and came up with this one day riding to/back from a gig. Lead Vocal and Baritone-Doug Flowers, Tenor Vocal-Don Rigsby. Scott Vestal-banjo, Cody Kilby-guitar, Mike Bub-bass, Jason Roller- fiddle, Doug Flowers-mandolin

13. Mighty to Save (Ben Fielding/Reuben Morgan Copyright 2006 Hillsong Publishing Capitol CMG Genesis OBO Hillsong Music Publishing) This is one of my favorite Christian songs….the fact that my daughter, son, and son-in-law are on it make it super special to me. Tabor Flowers Henson-Lead Vocal-Low Tenor-Brandon Henson, Baritone Vocal-Doug Flowers Scott Vestal-banjo, Brandon Henson-guitar, Torey Flowers-bass-, Jason Roller- fiddle, Doug Flowers-mandolin, Dustin Benson-guitar
