ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Dragons Head – Songs of The New Old Ways

Dragons Head’s first release is Songs of The New Old Ways. New Old Ways tells the tale of our ancestors being threatened with death unless they abandoned their culture and their religion. Harking back to 9th Century Northern Europe, the coming of Charlemagne and the attempt to subjugate our forebears, New Old Ways tells a tale of fighting for one’s homeland and ancient customs, shares tales of exodus and conquest, and sings in our current age of the attempt to reclaim what was stolen from us. New Old Ways can be called our neo-Norse/pagan approach to life, music and the divine; it is our reclamation project to make manifest again the dreams of our ancestors. “We never submitted our consciences, and we never will!” We remain loyal to our ancestors and those ways of life that bring glory and honor. Never again will we allow our culture to be stripped form us or from our people. Join us in our quest of armed musical and holy resistance. The bonds of kinship are indissoluble!!

Dragons Head – The Players -
Daniel Michael - songs, vocals and guitars; Scott Michael - drums, percussion, keys, production; Legrand McMullen - bass; Nicki Peyton - Vocals; Nina Garcia - violin; Stefan Ilie - bass guitars and engineering; Jim Cash - guitars on Priestess and Samhain; Ashley Cash - vocals on Priestess and Samhain.

Daniel Michael –
Daniel is a musician, writer, philosopher and mystic. He has been a songwriter even before playing any musical instrument; he used to pace in circles singing as a child. At the age of 18 he began to play guitar and thus began his actual earthly musical training.
During the late 1990’s early 2000’s some of Daniel’s songs enjoyed local radio airplay in Baltimore Maryland. Though being in many bands (Token Groove, The Element, and Brain Fly), most of Daniel’s musical experience had been as a solo acoustic act. Daniel made a brief departure from the “solo act” path to write the rock opera, a musical theatre piece titled, “Light the Way.”
After a few attempts to see his play make the stage Daniel continued to write new material and his vision took him in yet another direction. Combining his love of mysticism with his musical sensibilities he wrote some new songs that seemed to fit the spiritual journey he had been undergoing. With this new material Daniel wanted to work with a fully functioning band and the first step was re-uniting with his brother Scott Michael. The lack of a band did not stop them from beginning to record the latest effort “Songs of the New Old Ways”. As the recording progressed the right band members began to arrive and they are now known throughout the territories as “Dragons Head.”

Scott Michael – Drums and Production –
Scott originally sailed out of Baltimore, MD, where he and his younger brother Daniel grew up, honing their music (& battle) skills on neighboring villages. Scott drummed for various bands over the years that raided the Northeast US ~ among them are:
The Enemy Agents – a melodic punk rock band that regularly played the Marble Bar, Trenton Street Station, Jules’ Loft, as well as other punk haunts up and down the east coast; Those Who Dare – an Electronic, Industrial Jam band that was a favorite of the Baltimore, DC and Philly festival circuit; Token Groove – a melodic Alternative band with his brother Daniel that recorded two albums and played scores of Northeast venues. Scott’s inspiration comes from Loki ~ the trickster. Like Loki, Scott is interested in philosophy, theology, mischief and magic.

Nicki “Nicole” Peyton - Nicki was singing before she could take two steps, according to her parents. She's a classically trained vocalist and a musical theatre fiend. Past projects include several cabarets, the band Pictures Of The Dark, and numerous solo performances in various musical genres. She is passionate and focused and is never happier than when singing and getting immersed in music.

Nina Garcia – Violin. Nina brings an aura of mystery and incisive wit to the band.

Stefan Ilie – Engineer and Bassist; band jester and technical advisor.

Legrand McMullen – founding bass player and inspiration, currently pursuing film deals for his scripts in Hollywood and New York.

Dragons Head ~ The Story

Every now and then a crew sails out of the dark winter of the frozen north that both shocks and amuses. This winter, that crew is Dragons Head. Searching for spoils in every fjord and hamlet, Dragons Head longs to find glory and plunder, to enter Valhalla with honor and be invited to feast at Odin’s table. The music that embodies their quest will move you to stand up for what you deserve, sing along and dance a victory dance fit for kings. Seeking rings of gold and other treasure, Dragons Head blows into town unexpected, taking the townspeople by storm, all while telling their stories of how their own homeland was ruined by invading infidels, forcing them to take to the waves. The “sea” is now their home, but Dragons Head remains devoted to making New again the Old Ways of the homeland everywhere they land. Come, be a part of the celebration – feast with Dragons Head, raise your cup, and sing the old songs anew. Worthy Warriors, Shield Maidens, Jesters, Healers and Shipwrights are welcomed to accompany Dragons Head ~ they welcome all who love listening to good tales well-told.

Dragons Head ~ The Music

Dragons Head writes and performs songs that some call Celtic Rock with a Twist. Their music is always heavy, melodic, and inspiring. Even when they get quiet there remains a roar at their core, a resolve to share even their sweetest melodies with intensity. Taking their cues from alternative, progressive rock, punk, jazz and Celtic balladry, Dragons Head can shape their sound to any venue or occasion – whether it is a stadium, a festival, a nightclub or a church. Their versatility in arrangement and presentation allows them to adapt to any worthy request. Though you will hear the muses of the ages represented in their songs, Dragons Head brings a sound unique and memorable. Their signature sound will ring in your ears until the coming of Ragnoarok (the end times).
