Album Notes
Matt McCourt goes ingcognito after 2 successful lps for Wild Dogs and explores his love of speed metal fusing two of his favorites, Motorhead andYngwie Malmsteen in one single serving of world class shred. Having the distinction of being one of a handful of bassists in the Shrapnel Roster Matt proves his skill not only at instrumentation but he created and composed this entire lp and recruited the Talents of Drummer Deen castronovo and Guitarist Kurt James to make it happen
the LP when it was initially released it hit the number 1 spot in the highly respected Kerrang Magazine chart for imports 3 months in a row!.. one live concert was arranged with this lineup before Deen took to the pro circuit with Bad English while still deployed as a session musician for the guitar virtuoso label Kurt James and Matt have continued the group with drummers trained by deen ( kurt james was trained by the man he replaced in steeler Yngwie Malmsteen himself!.. and is a Hendrix fanatic like Matt which led to an instant bond and many great get acquainted jams at Prairie Sun studio in cotati california ( we literally moved Deen to the area with the budget of this lp.! he came down in a truck with some roadies we had in portland and had filled his extra deep sheels( the kick drums were like 55 gallon barrels) he filled them all up with mac n cheese and cereal! good use of space!... we left him there to start what turned out to be quite a lucrative career after this eventful experience (and many free drumsticks( or at least cheap!) fast forward 20 years and Kurt is playin with Neil Turbin's Death riders ( the original singer from thrash masters Anthrax ) this live set was a one off show and as mat was singing for thrashers Mayhem he brought in MONDO on bass ( who later made a bigger name during his time with the kings of punk Poison Idea ) so Matt took the front spot( MONDO also played bass with Wild Dogs ( 2012) on the last tracks at laurelhurst park mccourt is on bass and havin a good day inthe sun... there is a video of that on the DVD "One night stand" live at starry night also available here at cdbaby the live shots on the insert were taken direct off the dvd video

dr mastermind

its a great cd for a great price..
ok ill agree with yaaall about the damn insert but hey with over 9 albums worth of material on the enhanced version for $5.00 there is the consolation! and a band with a one month history and one gig just doesnt have much to write about! let the music do the talking and for the price ill give it 5 stars
clowns poster is in the mail if he emails me nobody smokes they bought beer... cheeep stuff at that. im evil genius baby!

Dr Mastermind forever!!

Yngwie Who? Well same league.
Kurt James totally rules all over this CD.He is definately a true guitarist that has been overlooked in the rock world. He is by far a TOP GUN and needs to come back as a virtuoso, just like the best of them.

Matt Reynolds

I agree about the poor packaging. The cd kicks ass!
Kick ass speed metal!

M Butler

Bad ass druming at the begining of Deno,s career..
The quality of the recording is so-so but the content on this album really makes up for any shortcomings in that area.Deno is a monster.I had not heard this in almost 20 yrs when I was browsing and found it...Go cd baby...

defenders of metal

killer speed metal shred
i read the other reviews and decided to buy the cd despite what stormrider says and visited the band website, much to my surprise dr mastermind himself emailed me back! im very thankful that this rare piece of history is even available
my vinyl copy saw lots of replays and was in a mess.
ive tried to cop many of the guitar riffs Kurt James is fantastic dr mastermind said in an email that these were his contribution to the 3rd wild dogs album he is also the lead singer of that band. ill have to dissagree with with packaging woes of the previous reviewer front and back are just like my vinyl copy.
i was satisfied with the music! teh live cuts are a bit rough and unproduced but that is evidence that it was not tampered with as many so called live albums are, Matt McCourt -dr mastermind explained that his goal is to share all of the stuff most bands hide away.

Tourette the Clown

I love the LP, I've had it in power rotation since '86. I've played it so many times you can hear the other side backwards. Now, a beef with the Doctor. In 1987 I sent $2 for a "merchandise catalog and poster" to from Dr. Mastermind's Outpatients. I never got it. Some stoner probably got a free pack of smokes with my $2!

Okay, making my ears bleed and then heisting my petty cash is pretty damn metal. Thanks Doc.

pretty enjoyable music / shitty "package"
The music on this CD is actuall pretty good, well written technical power metal based on the lead guitars. You can hear slight similarities to bands like Racer X, Cacophony or Vicious Rumors. Too bad the packaging & the Media is as weak. A burned CD-R with just a one page "booklet" is not good enough for an Album like this. I mean, a CD-R is something i'd expect (and accept) from a band that does release a demo nowadays. But in my opinion it's simply not acceptable to put out a reissue of a well known Album of a band that already has a name. So Music + 4 Stars / packaging -1 sums up to 3 stars at all.

Erica Kane

This is the same Fatt Matt from wild dogs wow!
my husband and i were looking online and found this incredible cd under the wild dogs whom we are fans of
we never knew about this album which was apparently released just after matt left the wild dogs This album is really fast speed metal with the odgs drummer deen wailing away.
we saw deen in journey last year and this is how we remember him there is even a drum solo right on the cd!
and matt plays bass! this is better than wild dogs mans best friend

what can i say..kick's ass!!!
i knew of this year's ago from the wild dog's...i'm a deen castronovo fanatic..this and reign of terror from the wild dog's is some of his best work..mastermind rock's if you like speed metal this is a treat...
