Album Notes
Drop by Biddy McGraw's nearly any Tuesday and you'll get an earful of mournful, forceful blues from these Portland pros. If the teasers from the live CD the pair recorded at the Northeast Portland pub (due out mid-February) are any indication, their extended residency has served them well. Vance's sandpaper vocals have gained an ever-rougher grain. The pace is faster. His guitar steams while Bear's frenzied fiddle practically gooses listeners. If this duo's sound gets any bigger or wilder, it's liable to overtake the whole damn bar itself.

Wow! Buy this CD!!!
Being a huge fan of the blues, I regularly peruse the national blues charts to see what's new. Back in March I saw "Live at Biddy McGraw's" ranked way up near the top of the RMA's Blues Chart. I had never heard of Dylan-Thomas Vance or Griff Bear, so I went to their websites to check them out. Both guys have loads of mp3s to download so I checked some out, was truly impressed & bought the CD. And wow! What a phenomenal disc - made even more impressive by the fact that all the songs are recorded live. It's not a traditional blues album by any means, but my God these boys can play! Vance's song "Redemption" is EPIC, with masterful slide guitar and fiddle and energy that gets so high I found myself grinning ear to ear by the end. Do yourself a favor and buy this CD! Then go out and hear these guys play (while visiting their websites I also noticed that they tour all over the place).

Really captures DTV live
I first heard of DTV when he opened a show for Roy Rogers & The Delta Rhythm Kings at the Palms Playhouse in Winters, CA. Blew me away and bought both CD's right there. When I heard that DTV was releasing a live CD, I eagerly awaited it, hoping that it could capture the energy I felt that night.

It did and more. The CD captured his energy to a T. Also, this was my first time hearing him with Griff Bear. Amazed! If I'm ever in Oregon, I'll definitly make time to see them live, and if they are ever near your town, go see them! It's great to hear real music by real musicians.
