Album Notes
I’ve always had songs in my head........Well, not always.........,but pretty much since I saw Status Quo in 1973, shaking their long hair down and saying to all impressionable 10 year-olds in the world, “look at me!!” - I’ve just had snatches of music popping into my head and rolling around in the ether, so-to-speak. They were the first band that had me saying, "I wanna do that!" And shortly after that, I saw a real live band and the first song that they played was something called, "Smoke on the water."

In retrospect, i think they actually were pretty good, but regardless, that whole experience just BLEW ME AWAY!!! WOWWWW!!!! So, I bugged my dad for a guitar, because by now, I’d heard a guy by the name of Jimi Hendrix, who made it sound sooooo good! And easy; like you know, “add water and shake.” My father, in the time-honoured tradition of all his kin raised during the heat of the Second World War, made me sweat (to prove that I REALLY wanted the guitar) and after much nagging and a few chores, I received, a candle-smoked (and trust me, I’ve looked everywhere for this motif and found it nowhere) Bellini, (looked for that as well – same result) gut-stringed monster, which wasn't that easy to play and i didn't sound like Jimi!

Hey man!! Where's the electric guitar?? Like Jimi Hendrix's!!

Well, I looked at that guitar. And it looked back at me. And slowly, grudgingly, we developed a relationship that made me sound ALMOST as though I had a vague clue what I was doing! Almost. Hell; i even started playing Smoke on the water! Luckily, it also turned out that the guitar gave me a platform to foist my uncouth compositions upon the world. Uncouth composition, after less uncouth composition; a transition to Bass, plus many bands later, the process has distilled to the degree that I'm proud to present these finely crafted (couth) rock songs for your delicate ears.
I hope you enjoy them.

Let the music win!!

This album responds well to being played loud, on top of the range sound equipment. Please don’t hesitate to test that assertion.

On your own

Foley at his best
Duncan has been passionate about music for as long as i have known him and this passion is embodied in this album, from the jazzy Spirogyra sound of Ekse to the haunting, underground Hollow, i recommend this first public exposure from Duncan (he has been putting material together for years , so consider this a sample!!), buy it absorb it and pass the word!!!

Mr Dost

What's the R stand for?
I've known Duncan for a long long time. These were in the days of the Wild West, El Hombres Bar, A Pair of Brown Eyes on a Steam Train, Pace, Octoberfests in May, bagpipes in March & rousing attempts at bellowing Cowboy's Song or Under My Thumb ('81 Version), the latter whilst "breaking much bread" and balancing precariously on a bar counter.
Duncan had always the seeds of riffs for new songs and dreams, and was "almost there" a few times with making a record.
However, by the mid 90s, we ended up on different sides of the world & those dreams seemed to be superseded with cigarette vending and planks ...... I kid you not! Until one October, 6 years ago, near the Marlborough Sounds, when "Strawberries were in Season" in Blenheim ,New Zealand. Over some micro-brewed bread, I was handed a disc of "Duncan's Greatest Hits", which were demos of songs from Mr. Disorderdly. I played the disc a few times and thought, well done, you've made some home recordings , the songs are good & enjoyed them, whilst being slightly envious of the man who had reached his dream .... or so I thought!
However, I received the above CD (this time in Malaysia of all places) from Mr. Duncan R Foley and it blew me away. Some of the demos made it, but were polished up to reveal their gem quality. I've been humming these bloody songs all the time ....... but I like it. Particularly into Hollow at the moment, but I reckon it will switch around over time. Excellent CD.
Which brings me to the R? Duncan was never known as Duncan R Foley to us "Oakies" in J'Burg! However, but this record for some RAMBUNCTIOUS music! Enjoy .... "It's ALLLLLright, in fact it's a gas"!
