Album Notes
This recording is a result of over a dozen years of writing and selecting the best songs to go into this uplifting collection of contemporary Christmas originals, including Close To The Earth, The Angel Tree, and Green Christmas. Great holiday music for parties! The perfect Christmas gift for those who want to break free of the commercial Christmas and go straight to the Christmas Heart!

Joyce Johnson Rouse is a singer, songwriter, actor, educator and environmental activist. A graduate of Iowa State University and a native of Iowa, she's still a child of the cornfields, as evidenced by her corny humor,
and a farmer at heart, though a resident of Tennessee the past 15 years.
Songs written by her have been recorded by pop and country music artists such as Maureen McGovern, Marie Osmond, Jennifer McCarter and the McCarter Sisters, Jana Stanfield, Lindy Gravelle, and Rachel Sumner, heard in movies and ads, and used as theme songs for a number of events including the National Celebration of the 75th Anniverary of Women's Suffrage, where her work premiered at official events in Washington D.C.
Eleven years ago something magical happened when Joyce began combining her music and theatre skills with her passion for the Planet-Earth Mama Music was born.
Songs from her 6 recordings are heard in over 80 countries on such programs as National Public Radio's syndicated "My Green Earth."
She recently completed a masters degree in Earth Literacy.
Joyce is a performer with conviction-although nobody's been able to nail her with a conviction yet. She's been described as a cross between Johnny Appleseed, John Denver, and Miss Piggy.

Earth Mama is also Christmas Mama
This is the best new Christmas album I have heard in many years, all new songs and all terrific. I guarantee that the title song, Christmas Heart, will be one you will sing all year, not just at Christmas. This CD makes a very special Christmas gift. Cheers, Earth Mama.

It's hard to rise above the pain this Christmas Season
which is why my review may seem overly lukewarm. However, I told Rik that I thought are Worship Group may like the Quaker Medley. It seems to pack a lot of Quaker theology into 5 minutes. Fear Not gives me hope in this other war. Why must we do this? My favorite is Green Christmas. It is light, danceable, and yet still gives a message for earthcare and peace. Thank you for spreading the messages.

Mary Pendergast

Peace on Earth with Green conciousness!!
I am always looking for singable music with a message. Christmas Heart deals with the ultimate meaning of being Christmas people, people of peace, people struggling to be the highest expression of humanity. I will use this for singing around the piano with friends as well as with groups of children. Green Christmas will be great at our school Christmas concert and A Star Filled the Sky is perfect for the children's choir at church. My personal favorite is Christmas Heart, but I use Fear Not for my own reflection: War and peace the circle goes, must it begin again. Deep and powerful yet lyrical music.

Mary Gilbert

This music deserves a wide audience.
I want to get these songs to as many people as I can. They
will have universal appeal. The melodies are full of small
surprises, but easily learned and eminently singable, Joyce's
expressive control of her voice is truly moving, and the
arrangements and back-up really work. Most of all, I love how
these songs encourage us to find meaning in the Christmas
message for the today-world we live in.

Richard Grossman

Great music, Great message!
Earthmama is a unique artist. She is a talented song writer-performer. In addition, she is a high-energy entertainer.
What I love about Joyce is that she is writing and singing about what is important to her, the environment. She manages to blend a subtle message with her fine songs, reminding us why we should pay more attention to the Earth that supports us all.

Agnes M. Bonville, RSM

I loved the CD, especially Christmas Heart which I plan to play when I go to the state prison to do a Commmunion service in December. The songs are very meaningful and put me in the Christmas Spirit. Thank you. Sr. Agnes

All new and fresh Christmas music for everyone's heart!
Joyce, I LOVE your Christmas Heart album! You voice is rich and wonderful---what an extraordinary gift! Your gift of song, excellent theology and values, and cosmology...heartsongs teens, families, children, lovers, elders, those with dreams and hopes for our world, prophets. . . everyone! I can hear your CD being played on music stations around the country that play Christmas songs this time of year. I want us to be singing them here in my community and selling them in our gift shop.

Christmas Heart
What a treat to find this album of new Christmas music---we need traditional tunes AND we need new love songs to one another and to celebrate the ancient story. Thank you, Joyce!

Sing this Christmas album all year long!
This is not an album to put away with your holiday decorations, but one you will want to sing with all year long. Close to the Earth brings tears of recognition for older Christians, that the Christ we were taught about and brought into our hearts can help us gain a larger picture of living on this Earth in the new millennium. The 1980 and 1990 Quaker songs need to be taught to all Christian children. The beauty and flow of the Christmas Candles, First Christmas Dance, For Christmas and Green Christmas should make anyone's holiday one of dancing and sharing. The story songs of Algona, Iowa and the Shopping Mall give us hope for humanity in the past and present and the melody of the chorus, Fear Not in the Stille Nacht could become a mantra for singing peace. Christmas Heart gives us hope for the future...and Baby Child, Baby King will be a new Christmas caroling classic.

A care-filled reminder of the real meaning of Christmas.
The recycled paper cover with its "history" of each
song adds another dimension to Earth Mama's healing musical story telling. Favorites are Baby Child, Baby King and Green Christmas. I was very moved by the Fear Not
(in the Stile Nacht) as I think of the many "boys" behind the guns of war. Thank you for pointing us to that seldom heard story of an Iowa POW camp and the prisoners' lasting gift of Peace on Earth to the town of Algona.
