ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
UNIVERSITY SINGERS is the premiere choral ensemble at Eastern Kentucky University. This 32-36 voice choir presents several major concerts throughout the year and frequently performs with the Lexington Philharmonic. Recent highlights include performances at Carnegie Hall, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and the 2016 KMEA state conference in Louisville. The EKU Choirs offer a variety of singing opportunities for both music majors and non-majors. The choirs sing a wide range of repertoire from various styles and time periods. In recent years, EKU choral students have toured New York, Ireland, and Washington, DC, and have had the opportunity to collaborate with world-renowned musicians including Jeffery Ames, Ola Gjeilo, Jeffery Redding, Jake Runestad, Timothy Takach, and Tesfa Wondemagegnehu. This is their first recording.

RICHARD WATERS is Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music at Eastern Kentucky University, where he directs the university’s three choral ensembles and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in conducting and choral literature. In 2016 and 2017, Dr. Waters received the Distinguished Educational Leadership Award from the EKU Student Government Association. He was voted College/University Teacher of the Year for District 11 of the Kentucky Music Educators Association in 2012 and 2016. From 2003-2011, he was Director of Choral Activities at Delta State University, where he received the DSU Foundation Prize for Excellence in Teaching in 2008. Choirs under his direction have toured nationally and internationally, and have been invited to perform at several state and regional music conferences. His compositions are published by Colla Voce, Hinshaw, and Santa Barbara. He holds degrees in music education and choral conducting from James Madison University (BM), the Hartt School of Music (MM), and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (DMA).
