ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In late 1996 Ethan Matthews recorded his first ever commercially available piece of music as a then 18 year-old guitarist working with electronics and ambient music. “Satre Dance” fell right in alongside all the new age and ambient music of the time. However, Matthew’s mainstay in his early years was the progressive metal act Greyhaven who are still known today as one of the pioneering, independent bands of the genre in the 1990s, having combined new age ambient music with progressive metal.

Satre Dance represented a completely different area of expression for Matthews- a more relaxing kind of creative muse that foreshadowed where his music would navigate to in later years with Echo Us. Satre Dance was originally released on an independent label compilation in the UK in October 1998. It is reprised on the new Echo Us album, recorded on hammered dulcimer as it was originally intended.

Echo Us has been Matthew's longest running project, begun at the turn of the century from the ashes of Greyhaven, which he formed with high school friends in Eugene, OR USA in 1996.

To Wake a Dream in Moving Water is the first Echo Us album since the conclusion of the trilogy memoriam in 2014. "Wake" represents Echo Us' visionary take on Celtic music in both modern and ancient form- from the Irish and Breton Aires May Morning Dew and Doina, to the 14 minute Celtic-infused epic From The Highlands, penned entirely by Matthews.

The first Echo Us album to include reworkings of traditional pieces, Wake does not disappoint Echo Us fans who have grown accustomed to change. At the same time, the mystical and enigmatic musical personality developed on the trilogy begun in 2009 is still present in 2017.

To Wake a Dream in Moving Water is Echo Us' follow up to the critically acclaimed II:XII, A Priori Memoriae (2014), and the Independent Music award-winning Tomorrow Will Tell the Story (2012).
