Album Notes
Smooth. Upbeat. Fresh. Intense. Energetic. No matter what words fans use to regard his music, David Edgerton is CALLED TO PLAY. His first project answers the call God has placed on his life to make music with a spiritual purpose. His smooth jazz piano music is addictive-causing your mind to be released from the stress of today's challenges, taking you to a place where you can relax and be spiritually restored through the music's energy and drive.

His debut release "Called to Play" is a collection of contemporary compositions written around his life experiences. From his funky rendition of "Stretch Out," to his solo piano reflection of "Called to Play," David demonstrates several degrees of expression for any given mood. His arrangements focus on acoustic piano in the center of a small tight combo setting with harmonic and rhythmic accents from different instruments.

David Edgerton has been making music since an early age. He started playing the piano at age 3, and began arranging music for his 8th grade school band at age 13. At North Carolina A&T State University, he earned a degree in electrical engineering and a minor in music composition. While there, he studied jazz and arranged popular music for the University's marching band. He also performed his original works in the University's first composition recital.

In the near future David Edgerton will be touring the Twin Cities to promote his debut CD. You don't want to miss a live performance, so stay current of his upcoming events.

Great project David! And this is your first time out the gate too?
Great CD. Smooth and mellow with the soul of the artist captured on this project. The faster tempo'd selection make you want to see this performed live. Good work!

There’s no need to search for a favorite track, it's all good.
Whether I’m driving to a breaking news story or on my way to a social event, I want to listen to music that creates an ambiance and flavor that relaxes my soul. David Edgerton’s “Called to Play” does that and more. Conjuring up the styles of jazz greats such as Duke Ellington and Count Basie, while also maintaining an original presentation, David Edgerton has created a magnum opus that explores and conquers the various dimensions within the jazz genre.

“Monday Morning” is a vibrant tune to help all of us who have a hard time getting off the ground on the first day of the week. “Moving On” is the victorious track that carries me to an exciting weekend and a “Lullaby for Taylor” sends me into sweet dreams. “Muy Caliente,” an upbeat track with a futuristic jazz sound, speaks for itself.

“Called to Play,” the third track on the album, testifies to how capable, poetic and inimitable David Edgerton is as a musician. This song offers someone who thinks for a living an escape and an opportunity to get lost in the fond memories of yesteryear, hopes for tomorrow or nothing at all. I simply press play and drift. There’s no need to search for a favorite track when you listen to “Called to Play.” It’s all good.
