Album Notes
"Fantastic! I saw Edie live for the first time last year...She is an amazing person/writer/singer and a definite MUST BUY."
- Melissa Ferrick

"Edie Carey's reputation is well-deserved. She is filled with such high-spirited energy and humor that you can't take your eyes off her. You need to have good stories, good lyrics, and a super-engaging style to pull off truly confessional music, and [she] does it with equal parts love for her audience and star-quality panache."
- Indiegrrl.com

On "Come Close," Edie invites you to do just that: come close to listen in on some of her favorite musical and humorous moments onstage. She is known for her engaging - and often very funny - stories and between-song banter as well as her haunting and affecting live performances. If you haven't yet seen her live, then this album should tide you over until you do. Artwork includes a 12-page booklet of black & white photos taken by fans.

With her warm, graceful voice and her knack for cutting "into a subject...with a diamond-edged blade**," Edie Carey grabs hold of her audiences and doesn't let go until she steps off the stage. While her songs are what first draw listeners in, it's what she says in between that keeps them coming back. Carey's wry and self-mocking humor, coupled with her ability to tell a great story, makes audiences feel as though they have just spent the evening with a very close friend. Given the triple threat of her magnetic stage presence, heart-grabbing songs, and almost unearthly voice, it's no wonder that the word about Carey is traveling fast. Performing Songwriter called her last release, When I Was Made, "a lovely, shimmering, heart-felt record"; Harp Magazine proclaimed it "bare of self-pity and full of down-to-earth revelation"; Paste declared it "vulnerable and pleasing...rich with humanity and insight," and Country Music Weekly gave it "****."

Since beginning her rigorous touring schedule in 1999, Carey has performed in rooms such as The Bottom Line and Bowery Ballroom in New York City, The Fillmore in San Francisco, Boston's Somerville Theatre and Club Passim, The Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, Nashville's Bluebird Cafe, Genghis Cohen in Los Angeles, The Opera House in Toronto, and The Borderline in London. She has also played repeat performances at The Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, The Southern Womyn's Festival, The Houston Women's Festival, and Chicago's Edgewater Days and Market Days. She has shared the stage with artists as varied as Leo Kottke, Ani DiFranco, Jonatha Brooke, Lucy Kaplansky, Patty Larkin, and Sandra Bernhard, and has toured extensively with Melissa Ferrick.

Definitely a Must Have!
Can't get this CD out of my CD player. The sound is great. Such an awesome live recording! But I do wish "I Never Thought I'd Say This" was recorded, but it's still awesome!

an outstanding cd-great lyrics and a wonderful voice
Song after song is well-written and feels genuine. Listening to it makes me feel as though I'm in the club where the music was recorded. I hope Edie comes to Chicago!

Feels like home
This CD makes me want to take Edie home, cook for her, massage her feet... makes me feel like I'm home even though I am miles away... Thanks, Edie.

Absolutely Amazing
This cd is simply great. Each song perfectly captures an emotion. You feel as if it's your life that she is singing about. My favorite is Come Close, just listening to and then of course singing that song just takes me away. I feel like Edie simply knows exactly what I'm thinking and feeling. You surely won't be disappointed with this album, or any of her others!

Buy It!!
Every song on this cd ROCKS! I've been listening to it non-stop and have played it for my friends and I think most of them are going to buy it! It's a great mix of her songs :) I think you should buy it!

love it!
the next best thing to seeing her live!

Edie Carey soars AGAIN! are we surprised??
okay okay, so if you've looked at all of the edie carey cd reviews you now know that i am an edie fan times ten million.... i can not get enough of her, luckily!!! this new cd "come close: the live (photo) album" is a wonderful display of edie's growing talent ["with our hands", "compromise(be a poet about it)", "i like you(farr's song)", and "diamond in the ruff" being the new track releases which are blended between several previously released tracks] and her powerful, wonderfully overpowering stage presence. she captures an audience within seconds of standing on stage and exudes an enormous happiness and appreciation to her fans. her creativity shines, not only in her lyrics, but also in her tracks of "banter" as she calls them. who isn't laughing when "love them hard" and "teddy and the dog" come on? edie is downright hilarious! this cd captures the energy of a live show so well. i have seen her live 5 times, and whenever i am dying to see her live and can't get to a show, i play this cd. i'm almost always playing it, and if i'm not, i'm most definitely listening to either "the falling places" or "call me home." what fun to have 25 tracks of live edie!! it feels like she is sitting right with you and damn is that sweet. don't miss this cd. AND look for "when i was made" set to release on august 26, 2003. i have heard several songs from it at recent shows and it promises to dazzle you with even more wonder and talent. no sign that edie carey will be "burning out" anytime soon. THANK GOD. :o)

simply amazing
wowowowowowowow! i had actually heard of Ms. Carey and came to this site to listen to a few tracks. Nice, but nothing amazing...well, was I dead wrong! Ms. Carey was a last minute addition to a concert I recently attended and she blew me away. I immediately bought this album and haven't listened to anything else since. I think I've played it for everyone I've come in contact with...and it's been 5 days already! Geesh! I can't wait for her new album!

Awesome and Intense
This album is awesome and intense, just like one of Edie's shows. She is one of THE BEST live performers I have ever seen and this album captures all of that and then some. Any of you who have heard Edie sing know that her voice is like coming home after a long day. She's at the top of my favorite songwriters list!

Bravo, Bravo
This cd can be played in a row a million times. It is by far one of the best cd's I own.
