ABOUT THIS ALBUM

CAN IT REALLY BE YOU’VE GONE AWAY

MUSIC and LYRICS by EDIE LYNCH

VOCAL by MALCOLM DODDS

This song, Can It Really Be, was in the documentary feature film, LOST CONTROL, which portrayed the struggle

of men and women in a maximum security prison and rehabilitation center trying to overcome

their addiction to opioids and crack and heroin. The film was produced and directed by Edie Lynch

and was nominated for the Grierson Academy Award at the American Film Festival. Ms. Lynch was

inspired to make the film by a dream she had of her beloved sister Jacqueline Sonja Brooks who had

the kindest heart for all people facing challenging obstacles in their lives. Jacqueline was bold, beautiful

and the sweetest homecoming Queen. She lived her life as a Star and will forever be missed. She was

driving her new car home from the showroom when the wheel came off on the highway and she went

over a cliff and lost her life. Jacqueline’s memory lives on and those who knew her and those who will

come to appreciate the music she gave to Edie in a dream will always say, “Can It Really Be You’ve Gone

Away?” Malcolm Dodds, the vocalist, captured the turbulent emotions one feels when coping with the loss of a loved one.

A SONG THAT MAKES THE HEART FEEL BETTER
I have suffered many losses in my life, and like most people I struggle to overcome my grief. I have learned in my journeys to restore my spirit that my biggest comfort comes in not trying to forget but emerging myself in the quiet comfort of remembering the good times I had with the beloved person I am missing. I write a letter to them while calling out their name and I sing a special tune. I tell them I miss them and treasure the fun times I had with them. I remind them to visit me soon in a dream or give me a little remembrance that I will surely recognize as coming from them. It works. Out of nowhere I will hear a song they loved, or find that missing shoe of mine - and of course I realize that they are still in my life. All I have to do is keep the connection going - write my letters, give time to others in need, and remember to reflect and enjoy the good laughter we had together. They will not fail to help me. We will "forever and always" be connected.
