Fly, Hippopotamus, Fly!

by Ed Lipton

Delightfully catchy kids' songs that won't annoy the grownups. The melodies are inspired by folk songs, the lyrics are full of puns funny enough to make adults giggle while the kids learn how to spell and pronounce hard words.

Album Notes
Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Ed Lipton's children's songs is that while children of all ages giggle, laugh, love them, learn and sing them with tremendous enthusiasm, adults too equally enjoy them. At any concert, adults are the first to request him to sing Fly, Hippopotamus, Fly, Animal Apartment House, or any other of his children's songs.

If you talk with Ed Lipton about his songs, the reason for this becomes apparent. Ed believes that too many writers and entertainers underrate the ability of children to understand and appreciate. He feels that too often children's sensitivity and creativity are dulled rather than allowed room to grow.

Most important, Ed adds, too often, second rate material that wouldn't pass muster with an adult auidence is considered perfectly fine for children. If you write a song that can't be appreciated by adults, then it isn't good enough for your children.

If you are looking for the very best children's material available, genuinely enjoyable, moving, meaningful and funny- songs that tend to bring out the best in children - and above all, songs that are original, lively, and thoroughly singable, then this is the record for you.

Without phoniness and frills, here is a personal concert for you and yours by perhaps the best children's songwriter on the scene today.

Ed Lipton has had wide experience in working with and performing for both adult and children's audiences. His songs have been presented on TV and radio programs and have been anthologized and recorded by a number of artists in the U.S. and abroad.

Fly Hippopoamus
Ed has written clever and whimsical songs which totally capture children's attention - even my 3 month old grandson. When the CD came out,I sent copies to my grandchildren and their parents were just as excited to revisit an old friend.

Fly Hippopotomus Fly
We are into the third generation of lovers of this album, having had it when it was an LP almost 30 years ago. Children and adults are tickled by the clever words and catchy music. Ed Lipton's performance of his own songs is beautiful and engaging. Everyone should have this CD and give it as gifts for little ones starting at about age 2.

Urban Mom

a must-have for bright young kids
I remember "Fly, Hippopotamus, Fly!" as one of my favorites when I was little, and now my toddler is obsessed with this CD. True, many of the tracks are longer than your average children's music today, but the lyrics are so clever that they still make me laugh. And as a bonus, it keeps my daughter occupied and singing along. She'll enjoy it even more as she gets older and understands more of the wordplay.
I'm buying this for all the birthdays between ages 2 and 7 this year!
