ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Songs from Penny Black the musical, with music composed, performed and produced by multi-instrumentalist, Ed Weston, featuring stunning vocal performances by Lisa Coleman and Stewart McGhee. It is both the score for the stage show written by John Collings (winner of the Steyning Play Festival 2009), and an album of original music in its own right. With lyrics also written by Collings, it dares to mix electronic and orchestral arrangements with classic rock/blues line-ups all brought together by a sound of the stage.

The musical features Penny Black, a downcast twenty-something drifting aimlessly through life, married to a despicable husband. It tells the story of the challenges she faces and how, despite her circumstances, she finds the strength and the means to turn her life around. She discovers her hidden talents and, of course, finds true love! A modern take on a classic story, with Collings drawing on his experience as a former counsellor to bring insight to some of the issues faced by Penny.

Set against a story of trials and triumph, charged with passion and romance, the music captures every element. And there are love songs, some of which have been described as 'the most beautiful ever written'!! Indeed, much heart and soul has gone into the making of these songs!
