ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jangala is an expedition, a safari, if you will (of course, no animals were harmed in the making of this recording), and was a completely improvised, single pass performance with no overdubs and only slight editing for shape and length creating spontaneous compositions from intuitive, empathetic and dynamic interactions between four musicians, most of whom have a long personal and musical history.

Bill Weisbach, Steve Foreman and Clive Smith have known each other since childhood and have played together in various configurations over the decades. It seems Ian Smit manages to penetrate that circle every decade, or so, for musical excursions with Messrs. Weisbach and Foreman, and yet this marks the first, and certainly not the last, encounter for Smith and Smit. Oh...No more ten year intervals...We don't have that kind of time!

The music created seemed to take on a quality and essence of movements, both big and small, quick and slight, deliberate and halted. Not utilizing any indigenous traditional instrumentation, E'fessioux managed to conjure images of wildlife in a far away place at a far away time while not even thinking about it in this performance. What emerged could be considered a gift to the four fellas from a place deep within.

Steve Foreman - bass, effects
Ian Smit - guitar, effects, loops
Clive Smith - keys, modular synth, computer, effects
