Joan Armatrading is All Housed Up

"The Tom Glide Space Like Fire Remixes" (Damn'IT! Records) featuring New York City singer, Ekayani, is a house music homage to Joan Armatrading's acoustic. Three tracks -- an electro, tribal and progressive version, are featured in 16 different house music categories on the UK dance music download site BeatsDigital.com with additional buzz on DontStayIn. Now that's hot.

Brooklyn, New York (PRWEB) December 3, 2007 -- "The Tom Glide Space Like Fire Remixes" EP (Damn'IT! Records) featuring New York City singer Ekayani, is a collection of dance floor ready tracks that pay homage to Joan Armatrading's "Like Fire". The tracks are featured in 16 different categories of house music on the Brighton-based dance music download site http://www.BeatsDigital.com/damnitrecords . "Just hearing her deep soulful contralto let me know that it was possible for me to realize my aspiration to sing. Most of the females I was hearing on the radio at the time had predominantly high pitched voices. Joan was different." In her own way, Ekayani is following in the footsteps of her mentor Armatrading, who also defied easy categorisation by working in multiple styles ranging from jazz to blues to rock. Ekayani, has garnered multiple awards and notices for 5 separate songs from her 2005 release FULL LENGTH with The Healing Band which is already a remarkable achievement.(What is even more remarkable is that the notices range in genre including spoken word,R & B, and yes, dance.) Full Length is a poetic work that sounds as jazzy as it does worldly. Her voice is in turns like Sade on her ballad "La Raihna" (The Queen) and her style can be compared to Laurie Anderson, the multi media story teller, with a dash of hypnotic sensuality thrown in on the summery "Une Fille Qui Parle de ses Desirs". Her latest offering profers not one, not two, but three housed up versions of LIKE FIRE produced by Tom Glide (Paris).

Since the launch party at Label Lounge merely two weeks ago, DJs have been digging Ekayani's sexy and progressive take on the acoustic original. From New York to the Netherlands, the Like Fires have been catching on most notably with Jeannie Hopper (LSL) who is archiving the songs on Art Radio DJ Sessions (WPS1). "These mixes ABSOLUTELY give you a fabulous electro-house infused injection to your dj sets or your own personal media players playlist!" Third Eye, a catchy number that brings yoga to the dance floor, is also found on the ep having debuted at Amsterdam Dance Event 2007, Musique Radio's Paris Progressive ( France) and is a contender for the crowd at Miami's upcoming WMC. A return engagement for The Tom Glide Space featuring a special performance by Ekayani at Deep Dance Promotions future edition of VISIONS with Kervyn Mark is taking place at the Sapphire Lounge 249 Eldridge street Thursday, February 7, 2008 on New York's lower east side. Showtime is 10 p.m. Forecast: Hot!

Ekayani has done it again! And Tom Glide knows what he is doing. So cool to know her other work and to hear it remixed. Reminds me of Trance music from the 90's. I thought I was entering another dimension. Very cool!
