Amazing! From the moment the first notes leap to life...
From the moment the album's first notes leap to life, Elana's "A Spark of Light" welcomes the listener on a delightfully multicolored voyage that ranges from folksy to jazzy to poppy (you know what I mean), intricately layered and beautifully orchestrated, with the perfect balance of familiarity and novelty.

Elana's melodies run from exuberant to soulful, from whimsical to reflective --- each dressed in just the right rhythm and augmented by subtle ornamentations that evidence Elana's impressive musical background. (Elana's young daughter graces Hinei Mah Tov, for instance, and a lovely musical motif brackets L'cha Dodi.) Elana uses her voice to serve each piece, offering deep musicality and nuance but never overshadowing her own music. Crisp and clean, the diverse tracks unite like the movements of a classical symphony to form a masterpiece that is well produced without being over-produced.

The last, personal notes of "A Spark of Light" will bring you to your feet shouting "Encore!" before you remember that only live music works that way, and that we'll have to wait for a follow-up album to get more sparks of light from Elana Arian.
