Album Notes
Elephantizer is a trio of accordion, violin and upright bass that plays joyful and invigorating music from the heart. They play captivating arrangements of Eastern-European gypsy music from Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, the Ukraine and Greek Rembetica. Their stylistically diverse repertoire also includes Parisian café musettes, gypsy jazz and tangos from Argentina and Uruguay.

Much of their traditional songs have been accumulated in true gypsy fashion; learned from other musicians and recordings while traveling throughout Europe and North America. Elephantizer’s original compositions explore odd-metered time signatures such as 5/4, 7/8, 9/8 and 11/8 often heard in Balkan music. They have honed their cohesive musical connection through hours of busking, often causing spontaneous incidents of public dancing.

The music they create has the mesmerizing richness of an acoustic chamber music ensemble. Their wide-ranging repertoire encompasses sensual solos, engaging rhythms and beautiful group sensitivity.

They have provided musical accompaniment for weddings and exhilarating performances with Cirkus Jelly, sometimes while riding unicycles!
