Vocalist Elise Margaret Roth grew up in London, listening to recordings of the Andrews Sisters, Artie Shaw, and Glenn Miller, never imagining that she'd come to be known as the “poster girl” for the vintage music and dance scene in Boston. Thanks to her timeless look and lithe vocals, she is setting the standard among performers of Big Band and swing music.
Like many of her jazz forebears, Ms. Roth trained in the classical tradition and received her Masters in Music from New England Conservatory. A versatile vocalist who delights in performing art song and opera, it is truly in jazz where Elise has found the intersection of her passion for music, living history, and performance. As in her classical career, she revels in finding obscure tunes and reviving them for today’s listeners. Audiences who have seen her perform know that every detail is pitch-perfect, and her classic presentation is second only to her repertoire of music ranging from the 1920s Jazz Age through the 1950s.
This is her first solo album, with 6 specially selected songs arranged by collaborator Danny Fratina.
