Album Notes
Ellen Lerner is a true singer/songwriter. She tells stories.
Listeners are so amazed as to how Lerner can get so many characters in her novel-like lyrics to come alive within such a simple delivery.
Lerner has a very special relationship with her songs and her audience. She explains, "What is really me is singing a story that is my own or that I can make my own. That honesty comes across in my work. Sometimes there is a lyric that I do not want in there, but I cannot change it, because that line is the truth- my truth.
I knew since I was small that this was my calling. I have been writing all of my life and I hope to never stop."
Ellen Lerner is discovering things about herself through music. She travels the distance between musical heros and her very own unique sound, from reflections on her own upbringing to raising a son, and discovering anew what her message means in a different time and place. It is a triumph of mastering a new stage of life upon the stage of music- her very first love.

Tori Amos without the weird bits!
Ellen has been a loyal supporter of my songs on Myspace, and it's great to see her work come to such glorious fruition. These songs are great because you get that Tori Amos rawness and intelligence of emotions, but without the weird shouty bits. I think my favourite is "Early November", but it's a really tough call. Buy this CD!!

Amazing! Amazing!
All I can say is AMAZING!! Buy this CD! It will change your life!

Check this cd out.
I was lucky enough to find out about Ellen Lerner a good 10 years ago. I had her cassette in the car and listened to it until it got stolen. When I found Ellen again last winter on MySpace I got to hear her music again and it totally made my day.

This album is fantastic, I adore Nothing is Free, I've been that girl. I think that's what I love about her so much. I've been the girls she's written about. We all have. Her voice is pure and clear and her melodies soothing and the lyrics, raw with emotion. Check it out you won't be disappointed

I found Ellen Lerner on MySpace and bought her album right away! This album really grabs you! I feel like she is singing just to me.... and I can not wait to catch a live show! Do you have her other album "Flower Child" I would love that as well and anything else I can find of hers! Check out this singer/songwriter! She is really really amazing!! Thanks!

Breathtaking, Amazing, OUTSTANDING!!!
This CD is sheer perfection. It is beautiful; you feel it in your marrow. Ellen has an angel's voice, and is a BRILLIANT songwriter. This is the absolute BEST singer/songwriter CD I've ever heard.

Wore out my friend's copy....
I love this album so much that I wore out my friend's copy, so I guess I owe him a new one! This is such a great record and I can not wait until Ellen Lerner puts out a new one....I heard it will be soon! I'll be the first in line!! Thank you for still making singers and songwriters that know how to write good songs!! Ellen, you totally rock!! Thank you!! Alex

This is a great CD from an artist who deserves more recognition.
This is a well produced CD, mixing live tracks with some studio work. The high point is the song Talk With God, which has a great band arrangement on it, featuring some very nice dobro work from a Mr. Mike Brenner, and very tastily backed by Jim Boggia on guitar, Garry Lee on bass, and Gordan Towsand on drums. The songs have a very confessional vibe to them, like Ellen Lerner is letting us into her own world, in a very similar way to Joni Mitchell's songs. There is a slight drop in audio quality on the live tracks, but the performances are solid, and worthy of bringing to light.
This is an artist who has clearly absorbed and assimilated some of her favourite music, and has made it her own. This CD comes highly recommended, and shows us an artist who clearly deserves more recognition.

The First of Many Great Albums and Downloads!!
When I first bought this cd I listened to it over and over....then i got my hands on some live tracks and now I find myself coming back to this again....Ellen sounds like she is singing just to me...like she understands the trials of life....we have all been there and she can capture it in such a brilliant way!! So Wonderful! A+++++

Growing up to the music of Randy Newman, Billy Joel and Joe Jackson I've always had a thing for piano playing singer/songwriters. This is a very intimate album, on the songs that are performed solo at the piano Ellen Lerner sounds like she's playing in your living room. A lot of the melodies are lovely and it's certainly an album to return to often.
