Album Notes
Music for the Irish dancer with an exciting, contemporary sound! With undeniable beats and sweet Irish melodies, this CD will make everyone want to dance. Drawing on a myriad of influences, fiddler Ellery Klein and drummer Ryan Lacey have recorded an album for dancers of all levels. This is music for practice and performance, from beginner jigs and traditional set dances to advanced reels, hornpipes, slip jigs and treble jigs.

"rum & raisin records" was created by fiddler Ellery Klein and drummer/percussionist Ryan Lacey to produce modern and hip music for competitive Irish dancing. This full studio recording features twenty tracks of Irish dance music suitable for competitions at Feiseanna. They worked with several Irish dance teachers to develop this CD, which features beginner dances, traditional set dances and advanced reels, slip jigs and hornpipes, all in regulation tempos set by the Irish Dance Commission.

At the core of the cd, Ryan Lacey's funky drumming adds a contemporary sound to Irish dance while respecting the fundamental needs of dancers. Ellery fiddles away on traditional tunes and original compositions written to especially suit the slower tempos needed by dancers. They are joined by guitarist Matt Heaton (Suicra, Aoife Clancy Band, Matt and Shannon Heaton,) upright and electric bassist Ian Riggs (Howard Fishman Quartet, East Along the Road,) jazz pianist and accordianist Joe Barbato, and five-string banjo player Charlie Worsham.

Ellery Klein was the fiddler for Irish band Gaelic Storm from 2003-2007. An Irish fiddler for over twenty years, she has also toured with Whisky Before Breakfast, jighead, Cathy Ryan and Scottish pianist James Ross. She earned an MA in Irish Traditional Music from the University of Limerick and has a solo traditional fiddle CD, "Salt & Pepper" (also available on CDBaby.)

Ryan Lacey currently tours full-time with Irish band Gaelic Storm, and was a co-producer on their last album, "Cabbage." He earned two music degrees from the Los Angeles Music Academy, one in kit drumming and one in hand percussion. He has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and the U.K. with several bands including Guava, Gaelic Storm, Orangewood and Dextris.

Excellent for practicing Irish Dance!
I ordered this CD for my Irish Dancing daughters. The cd has a great mix on it. There is a song for all their steps! And the music is nice, so they LIKE to practice to it!

EXCELLENT for Irish step dancing
My girls LOVE this CD as they use it for practicing their Irish step dancing. It is also great to listen to even if you are not dancing!

So Upbeat!
Step Into the Beat is an amazing CD. Even if you're not an Irish dancer it's well worth it to buy. Evrey song is something diffrent. It's the perfect CD for any occasion, I'm always listening to it, I promise you won't be able to listen without tapping your toes.

Brilliant album with something for everyone...
Brilliant album with something for everyone, a fusion of a great fiddler, Ellery Klein, and an accomplished percussionist, Ryan Lacey of the band Gaelic Storm. One drawback to dancing to fiddle accompaniment, sometimes, is that the art of fiddling includes smooth slides from note to note, which can make the beat difficult to follow. The percussion on this album keeps you right on the beat. This album is great to listen to and a real winner for classes because of the distinct beat. Not only is Ellery Klein a brilliant fiddler but a skilled composer; nineteen of the tunes presented on this album are her compositions, including several whole sets. Whether in her own compositions or in her rendition of traditional tunes, Ms Klein imparts a distinctly country feel to several tracks including the very enjoyable Pickin' Party Reels. Definitely good crossover music for country fans! All seven dances are included, with the hardshoe at both slow and fast speed. All four old set dances are included and so is one of the new ones, King of the Fairies. Highly recommended!

Hi all Dancers and teachers,

Ellery Klein and Ryan Lacey - 'Step into the Beat' CD contains some great tunes to get your feet a dancing.
My favorite tune has always been 'king of the Faeries' so I am so glad they put it on this CD, and besides the familiar tunes, Ellery has composed some really great tunes that are sure to inspire you and she plays them so amazingly well.

I really like the Slip Jigs #11 and Hornpipes #14, then I like the #15 Hornpipes and #8 reels..
There is something for everyone on this CD, and for those who really want the concise version of 'ST. Patrick's Day' like my current teacher, you will be happy to find it on this CD. We learned it a bit slower so it was fun for me to try to keep up with it.

They have created a very economical CD with multiple tunes and Medleys and the timing is listed so you can be sure it is at the right speed.

What I like about this CD is that the sound mix and arrangements let you enjoy the great playing while having the constant beat present to dance to. Ryan is my favorite drummer.

Hopefully this project is just the beginning of more future projects for Irish Dancers from Ellery and

Happy dancing. Blessings on those dancing feet and those who play so we can dance. Jeannie Quall.

I bought this CD for my two Irish Dancing daughters, and the whole family loves it!

Fantastic! Highly recommended by Irish dancers!
I'm an adult Irish dancer with a daughter who dances at the Championship level. We've listened to, performed to and practiced to a lot of Irish dance CD's over the last 10 years and we give this a "Two thumbs up, waving in the air" rating! I can't listen to this without wanting to go put my dance shoes on!
