Album Notes
The best thing about John Elliott's music is that it defies category. The bottom line is John is regarded by audiences and peers as one of the most engaging singer/songwriters on the contemporary folk/Americana music scene. Heavily influenced by Dylan and Springsteen, his work is frequently compared to Elliott Smith and Death Cab for Cutie, with one reviewer noting "John's well-crafted, concise and very catchy songs feature a Paul Simon sense of song structure and vocal mannerism. They get in, make their statement, kick you in the teeth and get out before they start talking too much" (San Diego Troubadour). His voice, with its "stylistic melancholy tone and charisma," has been featured on Grey's Anatomy, NPR and iPods, in cars and at campfires. "American in Love" is John's fifth album and the first to be released under his name. His four previous albums were under the project name The Hereafter.
