Album Notes
El Mar is Miami native and singer/songwriter, Joey Primero, alongside a collective of NYC-based musicians (most of which attended Berklee College of Music). Raised by a single mother who moved to the states as a teen from her native Colombia, Joey decided to release music under the moniker "El Mar," which translates to The Sea in Spanish, as a nod to her roots and seaside upbringing. El Mar released her debut EP, The Road, in 2015 and debut album, Try To Forget, in 2017, which received rave reviews from Billboard, Paste Magazine, The New York Observer, and more. 2018's Walking With Dogs EP was written while Primero was, well, walking with dogs, after leaving a career in the music industry, where she had worked as a music publicist for over 5 years. This new collection features "Sin Sin," a brutally honest track, with an Americana flare, that she wrote about her estranged Cuban-American father. It also includes "The Best One," an emotional, yet quirky ballad with a 90s tinge written about her guitarist and husband-to-be, Fred Sladkey. Walking With Dogs is candid - exploring love, loss, envy, and deep-rooted rage. It was recorded in two days in Brooklyn in the Fall of 2017.
