ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Maybe El McMeen has “invented” a new recording genre, consisting of the following:

Sit around in your PJ’s,
Get the urge to play,
Turn on the recorder,
Pray that this won't turn out to be a disaster,
Pick and talk, and
Send the result off to your great recording engineer
(Marc Moss of Target Studios, Wilmington, DE)
to touch up the sound, but without any editing that affects the spontaneity of the performance.

The result may be the broadest range of music on any recording by El!

Tunes include:

In the Bleak Midwinter/Hyfrydol
Breakout
Song for Sheila
Bonaparte’s Retreat
Ashokan Farewell
Blarney Pilgrim
Turf Lodge
Precious Lord,Take My Hand
Long Gospel Medley: In the Garden/Precious Lord/Just a Closer Walk with Thee/What a Friend We Have in Jesus/Amazing Grace/More
Hymn Tune (Gloria)
Theme from Mendelssohn (Hark)

At Home, Picking and Talking by El McMeen
This CD was really a joy to listen to. Wonderful arrangements masterfully played. My personal favorite is "Bonaparte's Retreat". That's some great pickin'! One interesting feature of this cd is that El talks between each tune, giving the listening experience a very personal touch. Want to get to know one of the best guitarists around? Pull up a chair and give this one a listen. You'll be glad you did!

Beguiling
There are but a handful of genuine guitar virtuosi currently active. By any measure El McMeen ranks prominently amongst them. His latest album is a beguiling collection of spontaneous performances interlaced with relaxed, fireside-like commentary that draws the listener right into the session. As ever, the crystal pure precision of El's playing is an extraordinary gift made even more accessible by the informality of this session.

A very special CD
Intimate, spontaneous, relaxed, like having a private concert in your living room but, best of all, gorgeous arrangements and awesome playing. I especially love the long gospel medley. It just flows and carries along the listener.

Bravo!

At Home picking... And Talking
A master of serenity coupled with exuberance in manner of drawing the listener into well crafted arrangements. For those already familiar with El's substantial contributions to Celtic , Spiritual , Popular as well as not so Popular settings worthy of further audience this recoding will most likely be warmly greeted as yet another valued treasure that bears repeated listening . For all others with interest in fine acoustic stylings an excellent introduction to an outstanding musician who is amongst the highest order of world class players.
