ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hey gang, John here. Dawg and I perform as an acoustic Red Dirt duo called El Wencho. I play guitar, Dawg plays congas, and we both sing. Normally, you'll find us on the beer soaked stages of Rocky Mountain taverns, or tucked into the corner making melodic noise in remote Montana breweries. There's not really one style that sums us up, but I'd call us a "tavern rock band." We're too rock to be country, but too country to be rock. However with this project, we might as well be in a hoppin' night club as opposed to breweries with peanuts on the floor.

On this EP, we wanted to put together a full band sound for this collection of tunes. The goal is to put the listener in the mood to dance. We incorporated full drum kits, bass guitar, remix sounds and lots of surprises (to us, and to our listeners as well). This whole project experience has reminded us how much fun it is to make a pop/rock EP.

We've joked for years to our live audiences that the last track on this song, Sugar Beets, is our "one hit wonder." We did our best to make it as Top 40 as possible, even though it's an homage to our friends & family who farm for a living, which typically isn't the kind of lyrical content one would hear on today's Top 40 radio stations.

For our fans who prefer our acoustic rock sound, we'll have plenty of future projects where we write tunes that fit our live style. That's the nice part about being in an unsigned indie band. If a song makes us happy, we don't need permission from anyone in a record label business office to tell us that we can or can't record it.

If y'all like what you hear here, don't be surprised at our other records! We've been a band for almost 20 years, and we plan to be around for 20 more. We're having fun writing and recording, and like all recording artists, we're already planning the songs for next year's release.

Whether you're on stage or just having a night out, "Play ''til you can't!" (Hell, that should be our motto, not to mention that it's a clever song title. Hmmm...)

I hope this Summer Songs EP finds you smiling and enjoying some sunshine. Cheers friends! -John
