"Riddle the Sphinx is the band to see in Los Angeles."

- THE MUSIC COLUMN, NoHo Arts District.com, July 2004

"Sensual and poetic," with a "humble confidence and a refreshing edge"

"An alluring combination of sensual piano artistry, earthy and angelic / ethereal vocals, lyrical/ambient bass and impeccably solid and intricate drums ... weave an evocative tapestry, a magic carpet ride to a sensual, whimsical holiday."

- LA MUSIC SCENE, May 2003

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter and classically trained pianist Christiane Cargill's music is passionate and multi-dimensional. Far from being pressured into studying music, RTS' front woman and composer, Christiane Cargill, insisted on piano lessons at the age of 3, while her legs were still too short to reach the pedals. She studied classical works with great enthusiasm, but found herself increasingly drawn to improvisation and songwriting. She wrote her first song at age 8, and had several albums worth of material written by the time she graduated high school.

While studying classical piano performance at the University of California in Irvine, Cargill teamed up with poet, co-vocalist, and lyricist Joy de Guzman, forming the group ELYN. The duo recorded their first full-length album, "The Fallen Ones," in 1998. The album explores pop, folk, classical, rock, and world beat stylings, featuring the dynamic percussion of Christopher Pellani, chosen as one of 10 outstanding drummers for BAM Magazine's November 1994 article on "Unsung Drumming Heroes of LA." Several tracks from the album have been utilized in major film soundtracks, including the independent feature film "Accidents Don't Happen" (starring Corbin Bernson and Debra Wilson of MadTV), and the Internet soundtrack for "Blair Witch II: Book of Shadows."

Adding new members Burgundy Morgan (bass) and Jake Jacobs (drums) to the group in 2002, ELYN formed the band RIDDLE THE SPHINX, immediately receiving glowing reviews from the press, and a dedicated fan-base through the Los Angeles area and beyond. RTS is active in community and charity work, most recently helping raise money to provide music therapy scholarships for abused and underprivileged children. The band enjoys frequent live performances, and will be releasing another full-length CD, "Fun House," in the Fall of 2005.

Great energy, exudes volumes of emotion!
Judgment Day is a slick, progressive Alt / Pop, Eclectic, and happy yet dark production that exudes volumes of emotion. Somewhat melancholy, with a joyous twist, the energy of this track connects directly with the trials and tribulations in each of our daily lives. All instrumental parts are well written, tastefully performed, and work perfectly for this arrangement. You are well seasoned musicians, and clearly have an extreme talent for creating just the right supporting tracks to serve the song. Wonderful ears!

Sensual piano artistry!
This CD has an alluring combination of sensual piano artistry, earthy and angelic vocals, ambient bass and impeccably solid and intricate drums. The combination weaves an evocative tapestry, a magical carpet ride to a sensual, whimsical holiday!

Thanks to those who inspire, we get a notable introduction to talent.
Christiane Cargill and Joy de Guzman rock with visionary and provoking lyrics and melodies. Produced with a craftsman approach to the final product, rhythm and melody are woven tightly together making a auditory tapestry that is captivatingly rich.

Powerful & dramatic!
Powerful and dramatic, ELYN creates ethereal music that takes you to another level ....

The Fallen Ones is one of the most sensuous records I've heard in quite some time. It is lush, well played, well produced, sonically appealing... I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Cyhndi Mora, All Access Magazine

The combination of Christiane Cargill’s smooth, rich vocals and sophisticated piano, with Burgundy Morgan’s stylishly ambient bass and Christopher Pellani’s artistic percussion wove a soulful, almost wistful and mystical wall of sound that enchanted my socks off. Their dynamic music builds from dreamy and almost moody to upbeat with lively tribal rhythms that borrow from traditional Middle Eastern and Egyptian music. Very danceable and soothing, great to chill to with a tall drink after a long day.

Singing becomes ecclectic!
Romantic, ethereal, ecclectic sounds of Elyn are a perfect blend of voice, piano and percussion. Moody tunes with a classical edge, Elyn brings classical piano and operatic styles into the here and now of alternative music. A must listen!

Very Powerful! This one is a winner!
The Fallen Ones is one of the best cd's I have heard in a long time. All of the songs catch my attention, but my 2 favorites are The Fallen Ones and Judgement Day. Great production and very powerful vocals!

Powerful Poetry, Musical Magic
I first bought this CD in 1999 when it was released, and loved it so much that I proceeded to buy a dozen more copies as gifts to friends and family. Even in the piano and vocal only numbers (and there are several), there is an embarrassment of riches in the lush vocals and deft piano playing and, of course, the scintillating poetry of the lyrics. Particularly outstanding is the uptempo, full-band number "Judgment Day" that simmers and seethes, as well as the delicate ballads "Palms Upward" and "Weaving a Tale."

The most amazing cd I've every heard.
I was on CD Baby looking at their special deal when I came across this cd. It caught my attention at the first clip I heard.
I recieved this cd about a week and a half ago and I haven't stopped listening to it since. The lyrics are so passionate and the piano background is so rivitting.
This cd is truly the most amazing cd I have ever heard in my life.
