ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Catchy melodies.
Quirky lyrics.
Warm vocals.
And above all, optimism.

Emily Dunbar’s debut release “Catch It When You Can” serves up a slice of small town life, elevates simple pleasures to new heights, paints a picture of the joys and trials of raising a family, explores the sting love gone wrong and sings the praises of cheap, cheap wine.

Producer Tom Prasada-Rao deftly weaves keys and electric guitar into a small arsenal of acoustic instruments to flesh out the sound of Dunbar’s guitar and accordion. Though Dunbar is firmly rooted in contemporary folk, she dabbles a bit in country, blues, and soul in course of these 12 original tracks. Prasada-Rao and Dunbar walk a precarious line, creating an album that is slick enough for the big time, but homespun enough to imagine Dunbar strumming just for you from across the room.

Amazingly Uplifting!
This is one of my favorite CD's. I listen to it on my commute each morning, as it puts the spring in my step to get me through each day at work! Emily is a fantastic story teller, so listening to her songs is fun and the melodies are catchy. Very cutting edge and right up there with well known pop stars like Taylor Swift! I love it! :)

Catch It When You Can
Brilliant debut! By the second time through I was already singing along. Laughing, crying, doing the head bob as I drove to work- Emily Dunbar knows how to pick you up and keep you smiling! A Say Anything reference? GOLD! Great vocals- a rich, wrap you and make you feel right at home voice with honkey-tonk instrumentals and I can hardly wait for more! A squeeze-box AND a fiddle? Best CD purchase I've made in years.

Catch It
Storytelling and witty lyrics are two of the great strengths of this album. The songs I love most are like good short stories: vivid characters met at a moment of decision or crisis. These songs center on dreams fulfilled, frustrated, and redesigned; the moods vary from rollicking to meditative or mournful. Collectively, they express how very complicated life is.

A woman tries to leave her man but winds up in the limbo of an Econo Lodge. Another gal dreams of moving away from her hometown but life keeps interrupting her plans. These songs feel like my life.

Catch it when you can
A fantastic debut album!!! Emily takes you through the complete range of emotions, from tears of joy with Barcelona and Prairie Christmas all the way to laughing out loud with Boone's Farm Wine. A very inspiring, up and coming artist. I can't wait for her next release.
