Album Notes
Emily Kohne is an extraordinary singer and multi instrumentalist. Her debut album set to release in the new year is an exquisite collection of refined songs with that showcase her wildly gifted musical ability. Her jazz infused indie pop style is refreshing and perfected. Her voice is timeless and rich with depth which is especially impressive considering she is 23. Her music is bubbly yet void of cheese and transports listeners to wonderful places. She is inspired by the likes of other strong female vocalists such as Regina Spektor, Gillian Welch and Lucinda Williams. Emily’s upcoming release is packed with a rich sonic landscape well suited as a backdrop to Kohne’s incredible voice. She also plays the piano and guitar as if she has studied both instruments for several decades. Accompanying her on the album are the talented Marshall Wildman on drums and percussion and Sam Weber on guitar, bass and vocals.

Kohne’s music is incredibly sophisticated and doesn’t take any shortcuts. It is evident she grew up in a musical household and was put into piano lessons at the age of four-they have certainly paid off. Her lyrics are bold, distinctive and earnest. They travel through a scenic route on an emotional journey. It’s as if Emily is holding your hand while you're walking down the back alleys of her childhood, break ups and travels. Kohne has lived in many corners of the world but is from Winnipeg and is based out of Thunder Bay, she has toured extensively in Europe and Australia. Her music is completely paradoxical to her age which makes it all the more fantastic. There are centuries of wisdom that live inside of Kohne’s music and infinite facets to her voice. She is a rare talent in contemporary music and I can’t wait for the entire country to know her name.
