Album Notes
EmZ is an original; she is one of those rare artists who follow their own inner voice and draw inspiration from a deep wellspring of hurt, and hopefulness, and laughter and love. EmZ sings her heart and tells her life story in every word she writes. Her songs are poems; sometimes tender, sometimes wickedly funny, but always honest and real and human. Her influences are as eclectic as her music: the cool jazz voices of Anita O’Day and Ella Fitzgerald; echoes of Judy Garland, the hurt child longing for the Rainbow; the raucous, rebellious shout of Rock and Roll. All of these disparate, contradictory elements come together in EmZ’s work in an alchemic fusion that transmutes them into Gold. Her first solo album "Postcards", Emz reveals her unself-conscious gift for capturing in stunning images, the often inexplicable journey of a sweet and vicious soul in bloom.

Soak it up
I cannot stop listening. Transcendental. Transformative. It lights up all the right neural networks in my brain. A double shot of Whippersnapper, warm, fuzzy, direct channel to the divine. Keep singing, oh my Pied Piper, Big Sexy Mama. Rock on. A brand of jazz sought for in all the dark underground caverns of NYC, an opium den for your clean livin' times.

Unwind the mind
This album is the musical equivalent of a bottle of red wine -- something to soak your heart in when the emotions overflow. "Postcards" will probably serve you better, though, as EmZ heals her soul and yours with her music. Her jazz style is both accessible and subtle, creating an organic atmosphere where everyone is welcome to linger. The album makes excellent use of jazz flute and strings, never sounding gimmicky or corny but more as petite complements to EmZ's sultry contralto timbre. "Can't Stop The Fever" is a fun mash-up that does a great justice to the timeless standard, while songs like "Wishing On Something Else", "Another Day", and "Gotta Believe" show off her musical originality -- sounding fresh, fab, and fierce. The tracks progress seamlessly, but the tunes are not predictable as EmZ draws on multiple genres to round out her sound. This album is clearly a strong debut that heralds more great sonic exploration to come.
