ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
With solid and accomplished musical paths, eight musicians come together to explore different ways of narrate, improvise and interact musically. With a strong compositional component that can brings together as many good influences as possible, Ensemble Super Moderne stands out for having not one sound but several.

The concept of an aesthetic line as a unifying element of the project disappears. The Ensemble Super Moderne does not take advantage any music genre in particular.

José Pedro Coelho - tenor saxophone, soprano and clarinet
Rui Teixeira - baritone saxophone and bass clarinet
José Soares - alto saxophone
Paulo Perfeito - trombone
Eurico Costa - guitar
Carlos Azevedo - piano and synthesizer
Miguel Ângelo - double bass and electric bass
Mario Costa - drums

«Ensemble Super Moderne’s new release is the perfect blend of well-crafted composition and virtuosic improvisation….so much so, that it is difficult to distinguish one from the other. The recording is daring, thoughtful, and poignant. I look forward to all this progressive, creative, forward-thinking group has up its collective sleeve!» by Mark Kellogg ( Associate Professor of Euphonium, Trombone, and Brass Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music. Principal Trombone of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra)

- The Ensemble Super Moderne debut album was nominated the 2014 Best Portuguese Jazz Album (A Jazz Logical website initiative).

- «Ensemble Super Moderne comprises a group of exceptional, virtuoso musicians. It is important to see things that way as this astonishing music is what defines the ensemble in ways that are often quite indescribable.» por Raul da Gama (Canada)

- «It is a creative Jazz, generous, exciting, without prejudice to himself, but which are not accepted as ethnic curiosity, that will not stand for the ´´lets go, everybody to the stage and then we see what will happen´´ and takes risks beyond its borders. »By Leonel Santos @ JazzLogical

- «This band doesn´t take any siestas by delving into saucy ballads or posing imagery of ethereal dreamscapes. It´s an action-packed forum teeming with intricately executed arrangements» Gleen Astarita @ AllAboutJazz

- «Todos los componentes de Ensemble Super Moderne están a una gran altura. Muy buena muestra del jazz portugués que, sin duda, vuela alto.» by lahabitaciondeljazz

- ***** (5) «... a ´supermodern´ jazz, in fact, in the sense of what contemporary philosophy will call meta-modern or pseudo-modern. A jazz that retrieves different formats .. »@ Jazz.pt
