ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
(From back cover) From the window of the subway as it passes over the Manhattan Bridge into Brooklyn, one has a breathtaking view of the New York skyline. The absence of the World Trade Center evokes within me, as a Jewish American, feelings of sorrow & despair, but also resolve & faith. The result of such emotions are is what appears on this album. It is my hope that in these "notes from the underground", you find a bit of inspiration. - EK

A Broad Appeal
The music on Notes from the Underground has a very broad appeal. I am one of many non-Jewish people who really enjoys this album and listens to it often. The lyrics are universal, and the liner notes are extremely helpful. Not only is the Hebrew in the songs transliterated, but it is translated into English as well, so one who does not understand the language can appreciate the music just as much. I have found it very educational as well as entertaining. The guitar music is expertly played and very intricate, and music lovers will appreciate the talent with which the lead melodies are played. Each song is very different, showcasing the writing talent on this album. Eric Komar moves easily from slow, rhythmic songs to soulful blues to rock, without the transitions feeling jarring. This is a wonderful album for anyone who appreciates music, no matter what your background may be.

Music that gives comfort in a post-9/11 world
In these unsettling times since September 11th, Eric's music gives the listener comfort and hope for a better future. You do not need to be Jewish to appreciate the words and melody. Looking forward to Eric's next CD.

I Keep Returning to "the Underground"
As a touring Jewish recording artist, I meet a lot of amazing people and have the opportunity to review a lot of music. One of my warm-up songs on stage is Eric's version of Shehechianu. It has that very happy "feeling' groovy" mood to it and it can always lift me. Eric's voice is like "butta" and his guitar skills are hard to match. I return over and over again to Notes From the Underground.

Professional, edgy contemporary Jewish music masterpiece
Mr. Komar's highly professional vocal and guitar delivery will impress any listener, newbie or veteran to Jewish music. His songwriting is original, meaningful, and insightful (it comes from a place of deep understanding and Jewish knowledge). Josh Nelson's production and instrumental assistance is also excellent.

One of the best Jewish Rock CD's ever to be made
Komar is a fantastic song writer. His ability to create a good groove, interesting melodic instrumentation, and supurb harmony are showcased in this CD. His lyrics help bring new meaning to familiar texts and are easy to sing along with.
I have enjoyed listening to this album for over a year and I like it more and more which each listen. My favorite is the Shehechianu.
