ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Graveyard Sonnets Vol. 1
The first set in a series of releases

The concept & title came from my early fascination with the macabre & also romantic poetry.
Many of these pieces were originally recorded & written on a small cassette boom box in my teens.
I wanted the names/titles to reflect something about the mood & inspiration of the song.
These are very personal & emotional compositions. I have performed these pieces in New Orleans for many years.
Thank you for listening...
-E Laws

Eric Laws is a Composer, Performer & Sound Mixer from New Orleans, LA USA.
Despite his furry ears and slightly pointed tail Eric Laws has always felt welcomed on the streets of New Orleans. His attraction to the city's both friendly and malign characteristics are addictive, and he finds it an overwhelming stimulant. Since childhood, Eric's main love and focus has been music. The sounds of the piano echoed in the Laws house since Eric''s infancy, and before he could color he was pounding on the keys. By his early twenties he had mastered his own compositional style; which evokes an unmistakable somberness. These tone poems intermingle with undertones of a childlike optimism, revealed to the keen listener. Playing an instrument for Eric is similar to breathing, but it is not his only creative outlet. He also releases his creative notions on many additional mediums (films, writing, art, etc.) Worked with musicians from Mick Jagger to Ann Wilson. He has created sound designs for over 50 theater productions, directed a "Dramarama" piece, performed in the big easy award winning "Hedwig & the Angry Inch", and plays for numerous bands (Morella & the Wheels Of If, Saucer Seed, Quaalords, DiNOLA). He can occasionally be seen sporting a top hat & sipping absinthe. Check out www.ericlaws.com & www.morellamusic.com

Haunting, eerie, magical, quintessentially New Orleans
Wow...each of these gorgeous piano "sonnets" evokes the mystery and otherworldliness of foggy, humid, eerie, absinthe-filled , magical New Orleans nights. Love it.

Dark Ivory
These compositions range from playful intrigues to lost Hammer Film sound scores. The piano playing is studied while remaining vulnerable with almost a whimsical spontaneity that keeps each sonnet fresh like flowers from the grave.

Wow!
Songs that make me feel the carefree happiness of childhood, and then bring me to the deep sadness of death and lost love. A wonderful balance of piano songs filled with emotion. It's like nothing I've ever really heard before. It makes me feel like I'm in a movie or in a dark castle with a storm raging outside. I can only compare it to Chopin, but it is different-it's own sound. I can't stop listening!
