Album Notes
Saxophonist Eric Person Smashes The Matrix With “The Grand Illusion”

Eric Person, leader of what he calls his “rhythm and groove project” Metamorphosis, unveils his continuing story and eighth CD
The Grand Illusion.
And just when you thought you knew him, with his sophisticated alto caressing your mind and his sultry soprano pulsating your soul, Person turns the page and starts a new chapter with his aural tapestry rhythm and groove genre busting music.

Full of edge and urgency, The Grand Illusion moves the listener smoothly down Person’s path of electric soundscapes. “This was the next logical step from my last CD Rhythm Edge and I feel The Grand Illusion is the musical statement I have wanted to make for years” says Person. The versatile and talented musicians that bring Person’s vision full circle include: guitarist Cary DeNigris, bass players Chulo Gatewood, the late Bob Bowen, Zaccai Curtis on keyboards and Brandon Lewis on drums.
The Grand Illusion features 13 original vivid, lush and dynamic compositions by Person with funky rock jams, laid back grooves and thought provoking vignettes. The opening song More Tales to Tell sets the tone with a take no prisoners attitude that’s like the world spinning off its axis. Morning Prayer with its flowing lyrical unison melody, is a vision of serenity and passion. Driving Rain is a torrential rain storm with a rocking and rolling flair that never lets up. Person expresses The Grand Illusion as “a finite and false world where we are taught to believe in things that will take us away from finding our individual truth”.
St. Louis born Eric Person is considered a musician for almost any genre. He has performed and recorded with jazz masters: McCoy Tyner, Dave Holland, Chico Hamilton, John Hicks and the World Saxophone Quartet. In rock, funk and world music, he has lent his talents to Vernon Reid, Ben Harper, Ofra Haza and Bootsy Collins. Person is on over fifty recordings as a leader and a sideman and has toured extensively through Europe and United States.
