ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This CD is dedicated to the greatest guitar dreamscaper of recent memory, American composer and guitarist Philip Rosheger. Without doubt, Philip had the gift of dreamscaping. A good many of of his compositions for solo guitar were written in this manner, including the works found on this disc. During the preparation of this recording Philip passed away suddenly in December of 2013. He was aware of my recording project and enthusiastically approved of the other composers on this CD, especially Ralph Towner and Pat Metheny. It is my hope that this recording will especially find its way to those who hear music in their dreams.

Listen and enjoy your own dreamscapes
This is a wonderful selection of pieces that is played with great skill and musicality by Mr. Slavin. The CD is dedicated to Philip Rosheger and the selection of his works played on this CD are a wonderful tribute to his legacy indeed. Mr. Slavin has added fine compositions by other well- and perhaps less-well - known composers that combine to produce indeed a beautiful set of Dreamscapes for all to enjoy. Yes, this is music to relax by but at the same time the lovely melodies and harmonies are combined with interesting rhythms that provide contrasts and a stimulating musical journey. Mr. Slavin plays the selections with wonderful phrasing and great delicacy in the more intimate selections. The choice of the baritone guitar for several of the pieces makes this CD even more special. The guitar's sound is lush while retaining clarity in the basses and the playing is faultless with no finger noise, which must have been difficult to avoid on the metal-wound strings. A great new musical journey by Mr. Slavin!

Great selection of music, beautifully played.
Dreamscapes is true to its title; The album offers a fine collection of musical landscapes that evoke a dreaminess that will delight the listener. I am saddened by Philip Rosheger's passing in 2013--for some of his compositions appear on the CD-- beautifully played by Mr. Slavin. nevertheless, I am sure Mr. Rosheger is smiling from above at this performance of his music. And besides such great composers as Rosheger, Metheny, and Towner, among others, whose excellent works are featured on this disc, there's also the lovely "Snow in Istanbul," by Carlo Domeniconi, that should be mentioned. What an fantastic collection of music played by an excellent musician on a classical, baritone and 12 string guitar!
