Album Notes
Being a singer/songwriter, music instructor and session player has taken Erik J. Matthews across the continent on memorable adventures over the years; meeting wonderful and creative individuals from all walks of life that have fuelled his artist output.

Erik J. Matthews - Guitar/Vocals
Brittany Metz - Vocals

Erik J. Matthews and Brittany Metz join forces on this single, presenting gorgeous vocal harmonies that lean in something of a Simon and Garfunkel direction. The poetic imagery and self-reflection in the lyrics add to this nostalgic effect, as does the simplicity of the acoustic guitar set-up.
From a songwriting perspective, the melody of the song has a familiar feel – it’s easy to get into it, it’s comforting in that we recognise the style and this arrangement of notes, descending at the end of each phrase. Structurally the song moves forwards in a manner that holds your interest though, the sections and the cut aways – the solo vocal moments, the switch to the hook, the development of the story line – all of this helps add layers of detail to an otherwise fairly standard piece of performance. All of this, actually, fuses beautifully, resulting in something that finds itself floating much higher than the opening moments may imply.
By the end of the song, the concept lingers in your mind, certain lines stay with you – those roses at the door draw intrigue and invite you to replay the song or relive the experience to gain a little more clarity.

"Erik is a newer face on the scene. Being his first recordings, I find him interesting. He is a fine musician and teacher. Lyrically poignant at times, he delivers melodically with catchy hooks . Erik touches on influences which can often be heard throughout his songs."

"I've known Erik for several years now and I'm very happy to say he has grown quickly in his music and tenacity to get it out there for you folks! I've played with people like Burton Cummings and several Juno winners as well as many hours in the recording studio, and I like the direction Erik and his music are taking. Having played at Maple Leaf Gardens, Roy Thomson Hall, CNE Grandstand and many TV spots, I know the business and how tough it is these days for Canadian musicians. Kudos to Erik. Keep up the good work and I know you will be rewarded. All the best!"

"Erik has a special way of writing lyrics and telling stories that touch each person uniquely; an ability to relate to his songs on a personal level. That is a talent and ultimate goal that most musicians strive to accomplish."

"I first met Erik in a little cafe in Montreal that I have been frequenting for a few years on open mic night. Over the years, you just get to know within the first couple of notes when magic is gonna happen and for sure Erik was one of those singer/songwriters that made magic that night. Great songs, great voice and great musician. The only thing that could be missing was him being just a great guy to hang out with. For sure he was that too. It was sad to see him head back to Western Canada but I know we’re gonna hear great things from this young man in the future. I wish him all the luck in the world!"

"I had the pleasure of listening to Erik in Montreal a few years ago. His ability to connect through his storytelling and his heartfelt delivery made an impression on me. It’s always amazing to me how music can open the door to a new friendship. I wish him nothing but the best on his musical journey."

5 Star!!!
Absolutely beautiful music straight from the soul. Perfect after a hard day at work to come home and unwind to with a glass of wine. Keep it up!

Long time fan
I've know Erik for a number of years and his music has always been a good release of stress, with his creative use of chord progressions mixed with Erik and both Brittany's beautiful vocals it is truly an amazing record. P.S. amazing guitar teacher and Northen Lights is their best song imo.

A wonderful vocalist
Brittany Metz is a wonderful singer and alongside Erik, they literally create beautiful music together. With this combination of talent, they will have a beautiful future in the music world and I wish them both all the best and good luck.

Touched the soul in Ontario

Erik’s acoustic album is a refreshing departure from a lot of the over done digitally enhanced music that you hear all over the radio (which is why I no longer listen to most radio stations). The raw and simple vibe that Erik brings with his acoustic guitar and clear vocals is a delight for anyone that beckons for a simpler, more truthful, bare naked set of songs. I am absolutely delighted to hear the influence of a vast array of artists I grew up listening to in Erik’s music... And yet his work is original. I have seen Erik play live and he is definitely the consummate musician. He has a great voice and is one of the best guitar players I have ever seen... I’m super keen to see what he does next!!! Seriously. Keep an eye on this guy. He’s just getting started!

Meaningful Lyrics and Music
I've gotten a chance to know Erik over the last few years and have been to a number of his concerts and have listened to this album a few times through. He has a great folk/blues with some rock undertones in his album. His lyrical abilities reign through his music and sticks out as something worth listening to multiple times.
Erik has a way of writing out stories in song form.
