Album Notes
The Evan Francis Group is a rhythmically active six piece ensemble. This music was developed, composed, performed, rehearsed and recorded in bars, bedrooms, street festivals, basements and rooftops of San Francisco, Ca.

The group's last release, “Spaceheater’s Blast Furnace” was released by Ropeadope Records on September 28th, 2009.

“Aside from being a hefty instrumentalist, he's a terrific composer….People with flute allergies will ultimately learn to appreciate — even love — the instrument…..Francis likes to experiment. He's the composer's equivalent to a restless teenager, always shifting grooves or mixing and matching”
-Rachel Swan, East Bay Express

“I can visualize the spirits of Rahsaan Roland Kirk & Eric Dolphy looking on with pride… a bit of the funk/soul/house groove, tasty beats...it's invigorating & refreshing to hear a contemporary jazz group actually moving the dialog ahead.”
-Jeffrey Jones, Music Director WOJB FM 88.9

"one of the very few groups out there that are able to pair a strong sense of groove and motion with musical sophistication. Evan Francis is a bad mother****er."
-Taylor Eigsti, Grammy nominated pianist/ composer

I can't stop listening to it. Such a fresh sound, Evan's writing and arranging is sophisticated and a real pleasure to hear. His bandmates realize his music so well, and play in such a cohesive way, that it is an absolute joy to hear. Beautiful solos throughout the record, and a very innovative afro-cuban jazz offering! Kudos to Evan Francis!
