ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Evan Hillhouse is an 18-year old songwriter who has recently made his debut in the world of pop music. The solo album started when he and his brother, Erich, wrote the foundation of the ten songs (the two were recovering from their previous ill-fated band, The Objectives, in which Evan was the drummer). By the summer of 2005 the songs were ready to be recorded and for reasons known only to him (lunacy, the challenge, or the need to save time and money), Evan wanted to play all the instruments on the album himself. Thankfully, by this time, he was proficient in almost all the instruments he wanted to use in the songs, and some, like the theremin and accordion, were picked up along the way.
The end result is an interesting blend of power pop and melodic rock, with influences including Jellyfish, Harry Nilsson, The Beatles (duh!), and Radiohead. Evan produced it himself as well, adding to its distinctive sound.
Evan first started performing these songs live in "The Shrines" - with two of his high school pals. Since graduating in June, the band has been re-named as, simply, "Evan Hillhouse." Check out more about Evan and his music on his "myspace" site at www.myspace.com/theshrines.

The beat that will move more then just your feet
As the music comes gently drifting in accompanied by the distant high voice of singer Evan H, a sound like its being beamed across from the other end of the universe paints a thousand beautiful pictures of loneliness and longing. Yet while you may get what’s going on almost straight away, you also feel a sense of alienation; as if this is a band that are going to keep such a distance that you really won’t stand a chance of getting to the heart of what’s going on at all. Give them time though, for as the floating textures and galaxies start to unravel, you’ll see that there’s a warm beating human heart at the centre of all this. It’s a undoubtedly cracked heart, one that has possibly bounded through solar systems only to return and report that.
