ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Heralded by Echo and the Bunnymen’s Will Sergeant as, ‘the greatest singer to come out of Liverpool in the 21st century,’ Eva Petersen is a vocalist, solo artist, and former front-woman of The Little Flames. Following on from her debut album, 'Emerald Green Eyes' (recorded with Will Sergeant), Eva returns on her second album, 'Voices of Winter Palace,' to collaborate again with former Little Flames bandmate and songwriter Mat Gregory. 'Voices of Winter Palace' is simultaneously dark and hopeful, drawing together musical influences that have always been close to them both: the driving krautrock of Can; the dark jagged drama of Echo and the Bunnymen and Portishead (Third); the soundtracks of Goblin (Susperia) and Morricone; the expansive work of Anna Von Hausswolff; and the lifelong influences of artists like Scott Walker, Françoise Hardy and David Bowie (Black Star and the Berlin trilogy). The album is deeply personal, rooted in a family story of war and immigration, but it also speaks universally of themes of loss, longing, love and the search for some kind of belonging. Recorded with Budapest Symphony Orchestra and chamber choir in early 2019 at the renowned Tom Tom Studios, Budapest, the album features Ben Gordon (Dead 60s) on piano and guitar, and was mixed by Bill Ryder-Jones (Domino Records).
