ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
While working in Seattle with bass player Rick Leppanen a few years ago, I was introduced to his group Pearl Django and the music of guitarist Django Reinhardt. I fell in love with the instrumentation and the Gypsy influence in the music, and although I realized The Hot Club genre was primarily an instrumental one, I was dying to sing with them. Thankfully, Pearl Django gave me a chance, as did Robb Henry and the Parisota Hot Club and Sam Miltich's group, Clearwater Hot Club. Before long, I was in Hot Club Heaven! Hence this CD.

"With her own delicious sense of swing, silken
phrasing and sense of adventure, Evingson really
nails Django's spirit on 'Gypsy', rummaging
through his songbook (often with added lyrics) and
other tunes that fit the mood, from Ellington's
'Caravan' to Sting's 'Until' ...." - Rick Mason, City Pages

Not the regular type of jazz
The first time I heard Connie Evingson's music was while listening to The Spirit of Jazz (ITunes) in a late night study session. I have to say that her jazz sound rivals that of Diana Krall. Evingson's style has a lot of energy and you can't help but snap your fingers or tap your foot.

Great musical arrangements and fine vocal renditions comprise a great album.
I first heard "Nature Boy" on the radio and was compelled to hear the rest of the album. The song selections and unusual arrangements make a really great combination.

Amazing, a wonderful piece of ART!
What an incredible CD!!! The music is unforced, true to the spirit of gypsy jazz and utterly enjoyable. Ms. Evingson's voice is a force to be reckoned with, and her delivery is flawless. Her spirit and love for music cannot be contained and it absolutely shows on this CD. Thank you so much for bringing such beautiful music into the world!

Paris comes to Portland. Thank you!
If Reinhardt and Grapelli could have chosen someone to vocalize their music they'd have chosen Connie Evingson.
Very easy on the ears and the eyes!

Hot! Jazz!
I've listened to this CD more times than I can remember. I love it. I saw Connie in Seattle at Jazz Alley after this CD came out, playing with Pearl Django, and it should have been recorded live -- they were great together. She had an excellent producer for this CD, for a change, that was really able to help her shine! Hot stuff! Hot Jazz!

New Listener, New Fan
I heard this CD playing in a small cafe in Seattle and just had to ask the proprietor who was singing. I came back to my office, did a quick search and immediately ordered the album from CD Baby. It's now a part of my favorites on my iPod.

Another Great Swinging Album!
Again Ms. Evingson has a winner. This is great swinging jazz based on the style of Django Reinhardt. The Hot Club bands she used on the album were flawless. The Parisota and Clearwater Hot Club bands were new to me but they held their own with Pearl Django. This is a simply must have album!

Fantastic!
Connie Evingson's "Gypsy in My Soul" combines gypsy jazz Hot Club instrumentals with sultry and swinging vocals. I love the new takes on jazz standards like "Nature Boy," "Night and Day," and "I Cover the Waterfront." I think this is a CD that will appeal to anyone who loves great music and talented musicians. It is romantic and relaxing with a unique brand of sunny vintage charm and class.
