ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The mellifluous and mesmerizing voice of Mahalia Jackson (1911-1972), the Queen of Gospel song, captivated me when i was a teenager, and my deep fascination with this outstanding singer lasts until now. Her artistic expression and creativity
also influenced my career choice in music, which is devoted to jazz. In order to pay tribute to this world famous legend of Negro jazz spiritual music I would like to propose a project, which will be an opportunity to present not only her repertoire, but also her
legendary figure, which has been now slightly forgotten.
Audience have a chance to listen to many well-known songs from Mahalia’s repertoire in new jazz arrangements made by an outstanding jazz pianist Mark Soskin, including Somebody bigger than you, a song that was sung by Whitney Houston as part of the soundtract to the film The Preacher’s Wife.
What makes this project exceptional and adds to its value is the fact that it will feature a composition made by Frederick Chopin, sung with lyrics written by Mahalia. This, I think will come as a genuine surprise for those who admire Chopin’s music.
