ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Exaltation Music Group
Exaltation biography by David and Pamela Claasen
It was all started in the late 70’s by a community worker Arthur Brown. A project to occupy children after school with singing. Abingdon Junior Choir, a community project of about sixty children at any given time was headed by this visionary Arthur, with a plan. In 1982 by God’ s grace Pamela Hampton, then aged 14 was afforded the opportunity to become a part of Abingdon Junior Choir. In 1983 David Claasen then aged 17 also joined the choir. The choir was created to facilitate an extra-mural activity for children from the age of 8 years up to teenage level and was run from the Good Shepherd Community Centre in Eldorado Park Ext 6.
Arthur Brown met with these children every-day after school, where they were taught how to sing, equipped with life skills and given the opportunity to travel in South Africa, see places and get to meet people.
Our paths crossed with Pastor Andre Coetzer, an evangelist and head of the Lifeline Music Band, who saw huge potential in this youth choir, and saw the need for further development. In 1983, a merger between Abingdon Youth Choir and Lifeline Music band occurred. A new group EXALTATION was formed under the leadership of Pastor Andre Coetzer, assisted by brother James and Joyce Sharpley. The Sharpley family devoted their lives, their home and their substance to the ministry and the well- being of this group. We thank you.
This is where our 30 years journey commenced. The leadership, kept this team together. Over and above vigorous rehearsal sessions, we had weekly bible study and prayer meetings as a team and evangelical outreach programmes over the weekend. With all this preparation, we were soon recognized as an outreach team mightily used of God for the edification of the body of Jesus Christ.
David and Pamela Claasen, who where group members since their teens, have been leading Exaltation since 1990. Exaltation pressed on and carried on right through the 90’s . In the year 2001 we managed to do a Demo, with Welcome Msomi Productions. This demo, did not do much for us, as we did not have finances for promotion and travelling.
Diligently, Exaltation carried on the work of God and He kept us. Exaltation has now been in existence for over 30 years. It has not been easy, but by faith we kept on, believing all the time, that we were in the service of God Almighty and He will help us to achieve what we had been called to do. In January 2011, God made it possible and Exaltation completed their first complete CD. We would like to say DEBUT!!!!! Released in 2012. Praise God after 30 years.
The songs are own compositions by Exaltation members, family and friends. Our mission is to take our experience and testimony of endurance and to share it with the youth of South Africa and the rest of the world , in schools, colleges and universities. Our lives as children, were changed dramatically by a humble community leader who invested his time and ability in the 70’s. We know that we are in possession of an effective tool to motivate and inspire children, youth, young adults and mature people. In 2011 Exaltation also launched the Exaltation Junior Project. Our aim is to teach the children the way of God, the importance of worship and also show them that there is a different life other than the abuse of DRUGS, ALCOHOL and Pre-marital SEX. Our vision is to have a 100 piece junior choir in Eldorado Park and carryon with the established, existing 22 piece vocal setup (young adults and adults) and 7 piece band. Leadership in surrounding communities who have witnessed the work done with the Junior project have shown an interest for us to assist them in starting similar projects.
We have been blessed with the gift of song and the ability to inspire others. It is our desire to go around the world inspiring communities to live better lives and spreading the gospel, that there is hope in Christ Jesus.
We are a testimony to that fact.
