This is the second volume of a retrospective on Fabio's electroacoustic music. The Electroacoustic Bonding is a live album that features collaborations carried out with other artists between 2005 and 2010. These works have a common characteristic: each sound results from a real-time elaboration of the acoustic interplay. As such, the live electronics cannot initiate the music, while the musicians are forced on a re-interpreted version of their own playing. The approach creates a bonding between the two player types, which can be deeper and tighter than a more conventional improvisation.

In the present release, the original tracks are digitally remastered and orchestrated.

01. Weighing Anchor
Original title: Rebirth Part 3 (2006).

Rebirth is an improvisation I run with Davide at Rinascita in Rome, which demarks a period of my music preceding my research on computer-based interactive systems. This is from the third part of that impro.

02. Within
Original title: Invisible Cities (2010-2011).
Prepared piano: R. La Barbera. Automatic audio processing in VIVO and live electronics: F. Paolizzo.
Within derives from the soundtrack of Invisible Cities (Paolizzo and La Barbera, 2010), which is a short movie that fits under the umbrella of “remix cinema”. Riccardo improvised a mechanically prepared piano, while VIVO (Video Interactive VST Orchestra) translated the motion of the images into a sound processing of the piano, which I refined further at impromptu.

03. Parallelize
Original title: Rebirth Part 2 (2006).

Parallelize derives from the second part of Rebirth.

04. Microtonal
Original title: Crescendo (2009-2010).
Electric guitar: M. L. Marler. Bass guitar: M. Duck. Automatic audio processing in VIVO and live electronics: F. Paolizzo.
Crescendo was realised with the Interactive Music Group; a group of performers and researchers I established at the University of Kent as part of my research there. In Microtonal, VIVO analyses the musicians' gesture on the instruments, in order to control part of the sound processing. I provided Mark and Matthew with rules for the improvisation and further conducted the interplay by controlling the processing live.

05. A Steering Law
Original title: Rebirth Part 1 (2006).

This is the first and opening part of Rebirth. The Steering Law is a predictive model of human movement for both the instantaneous speed at which one may navigate a 2-dimensional tunnel without touching its boundaries, and the total time required to navigate that entirely. In A Steering Law, I hear a similar approach, which ultimately tackles with a common question in improvisation: "what is the relation between the sense of direction and time perception in music?"
