ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Traditions is ... The timeless passing on of skills and knowledge, habits and ideas from generation to generation.

On Traditions experience the exquisite sound of fiddles, pipes, pianos, guitars, and voices from across Cape Breton and eastern Nova Scotia. This music illustrates how our culture was passed on by parents to sons or daughters, grandparents to grandchildren, uncles and aunts to nieces and nephews, and from neighbour to neighbour and continues to provide us with the richest of musical talent.

Listen to ageless tunes from the Gows mingling with modern compositions that fit tradition like a glove. Hear minstrels offer poetic songs of music and home. Be captured by a song of innocence and youth.Consider how traditions brought us to this place and time. Old and new merge into a wonderful celebration of sound that soars to the skies and sweetens the air. Tunes and songs are rife with emotion; some are spritely and joyful, some poignant and thoughtful, and some exhilarating.
Bringing different generations together in times of celebration or darkness is a Cape Breton tradition and we welcome you to share this with us through our music.

Another long-held Cape Breton tradition is working together to build infrastructure whether it be a barn or a hall or a home. In that manner, the sponsors, golfers, and volunteers of the Celtic Music Classic Golf Tournament have worked together for 10 years to build a community and form relationships to support the activities of the CMIC. This has brought lasting cultural, heritage, and entertainment infrastructure into our communities. The contributions from all of the musicians on this CD are another shining example of that generosity.

This is the third CD produced for the Failte series by the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre (CMIC) in Judique, Inverness County, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.
