Album Notes

A uniquely musical and mystical experience

Classical meets contemporary in this beautiful, ambient soundscape of choral, gospel and orchestral music.

When was the last time you listened to a CD with the
power to move you on every level?

CREDO IS this musical experience. The music on the
album will reach the listener emotionally,
spiritually and intellectually.

CREDO is an arts project, funded by the PowerLine Trust, and available both as an album and stage show. Both versions are written by British composer John Featherstone, who is based in France, and are available in both English and French.

CREDO the album is a spiritually uplifting work that combines choral, jazz, gospel, classical and contemporary music. With echoes of musical theatre, this CD varies in mood from poignant to joyful, and is the culmination of many years of the composer's musical and spiritual experience.

CREDO can be performed with a chamber group and choir. A smaller production, with 8 soloists can also be arranged, This show has been described as a, "delightful and moving assault on the senses and soul." It has enthralled audiences wherever it's been performed.

Performance venues over the years have been as varied as the repertoire on the 12 CDs that John has produced, ranging from schools and prisons to small churches, cathedrals, theatres, and opera-houses.

Cross Rhythms

A heavenly listening experience.
This has got to be one of most creative and striking recordings of recent years. 'Credo' is the inspiration of John Featherstone, a British composer and performer with a pile of works to his name, who has lived and worked in France for the past 17 years. He tours both on his own as a singer/songwriter (guitar, keyboards, percussion) and in larger-scale shows involving other arts. Featherstone grew up with two dominant interests - music in all its forms and languages. 'Credo' combines these passions, being a study of ancient Christian creeds, interwoven musically in their Latin and contemporary English contexts. (Apparently a French version of 'Credo' was released back in 2003). The texts include the popular Nicene Creed along with other pieces from the Church of England Service book. The hour-long album follows the liturgical order as far as possible, and includes such themes as praise to Lord God, essential statements of faith, the Passion and resurrection events, and prayers for mercy and peace. Both the classical and the contemporary gospel choirs here featured comprise trained singers in all four parts. A three-fold cord is achieved by the inclusion of a 16-piece chamber orchestra, with all its varied (wind, string and rhythm) tones. It's a fascinating concept and, I must say, such is Featherstone's musical ingenuity that the end result is a beautifully complex mosaic made up of delicately interlinked musical textures. Indeed, the juxtaposition of all three scores in contrasting languages succeeds magnificently in producing a diverse, deeply spiritual and profoundly moving series of sounds. I particularly love the forceful exultation "Gloria" and the infectious melodic flow of "God From God". There's so much substance to this recording that it requires repeated listening. As you do, its effect grows. A totally unique work or art, of high professional standard - and nice cover art, too - 'Credo' makes for an adventurous, fascinating and ultimately rather heavenly listening experience.

Paul Davis - New Christian Music

An impressive, up-market "church-musical"
Billed as an original work for Gospel & Classical Choir with a 16-piece contemporary chamber group, Credo is an impressive, up-market "church-musical" penned by John Featherstone, a stylish Euro composer of light-classical, contemporary Christian music. Based in France, he has a dozen CDs to his name & tours both solo and with others. His trilogy of cantatas on the birth, life and Passion of Christ were performed by choirs in Africa, Canada and the French West Indies plus throughout French-speaking Europe. Credo is his first British production for several years. This classy "show" (an inappropriate term for such a dignified enterprise) has already been performed in concert in Cambridge, and Guildford Cathedral, with further 2008 tours in train. Self-produced in London in liaison with Dave Leonard Cooke, this is excellent art (in composition, creativity and challenging-content) that straddles past–and-present cultures with flair.

Supreme artistry and uncompromised spiritual integrity
'Rooted in John's passion to communicate the essential affirmations of the Christian faith to a post-modern audience, CREDO delivers, and in every respect. CREDO introduced its audience in Cambridge to divine revelation expressed with supreme artistry and uncompromised spiritual integrity.'
