Album Notes
Boston, 2011, Back Bay neighborhood: Sitting in the basement of Felix’s brownstone, discussing music theory until the early morning hours, our rum running low and our friends taking their drinks outside into the narrow alleyway. Joe was the ambitious vibraphonist from Oklahoma City, Felix the Norwegian clarinet sensation sporting a suave blazer. We were two transplants brought together by our unusual instruments, and through playing together we uncovered the playful conversation pioneered by Benny Goodman and Lionel Hampton, and later championed by successive duos of the twentieth century. Scullers, Dizzy’s, Smalls – our friendship brought us to these iconic venues, the 21st-century iteration of the clarinet and vibraphone duo. Now years after first playing together, we bring you our first record. We feature the Italian piano master Rossano Sportiello, young up and coming Russell Hall on the bass, and a mentor to us both, the great Ralph Peterson on drums.

Come with us as we share with you the music that initially inspired us to hone our craft, tunes that want you to join in our humor and fun, from a time when the show was for you, the listener. It’s Showtime!

Felix Peikli & Joe Doubleday’s Showtime Band is a unique and unparalleled group under the direction of the internationally acclaimed clarinet virtuoso Felix Peikli and vibraphone extraordinaire Joseph Doubleday. The composition of young, talented, and fire-breathing artists honing their skills with inspiration and influences from their various cultural backgrounds in joyous and playful interplay with seasoned veterans and legends in Jazz, results in a never-before-seen band that breaths new life in to the lost, but not forgotten, music from the golden American entertainment era of the 1930’s.

Their ability to draw from the technical aspects in music history remains clear in their approach and they are capable of integrating these influences with their own wonderfully creative sense to assimilate musical concepts with astounding effect, wowing audiences across the globe. The Showtime Band show their brilliance, sensitivity, and innovative creativity in fresh interplay representing and promoting global and cultural diversity through their music and camaraderie; they are on a constant mission to inspire and spread joy around the world.
