"The CD opener “Goba” immediately draws you into her world, hinting of pops and blues melded with African roots in a contemporary sound. “Maturite” is West African polyrhythms in dialogue with the world, it speaks a universal language with sweetness!

Album Notes
Drawing from her own life’s experience, as well folk wisdom, Ivory Coast’s singer Fely embodies the new generation of artists who remain attached to their African roots while at the same time maintaining a resolutely modern outlook on the world.

For African women, singing can be a road filled with many challenges. However, the same road can lead to personal power which can move mountains, inspire and win battles. After 5 years of performing throughout the U.S., Fely Tchaco has decided inspire her audience and fans with a new album, “Maturite,” which combines traditional rhythms of her native country Cote d”Ivoire and a constellation of other musical influences. Peace and freedom, unity, global warming, love and betrayal are the hard-driving themes of this new album. Fely’s own maturity and experience_ shows in her voice, relaxed and brimming with confidence. She takes listeners on a musical journey that’s both intensely personal and yet universal.

The songs range from the pointed ”Goba” (Mountain Top) which talks about one’s ability to overcome challenges to “ Afrique Bou le Wou” (Cry of Mother Africa) honoring Africa for her great contributions to the world, and to “Let’s go For Peace”.Fely explains, “In my country we’ve gone through a lot of fear and political turmoil since 1999. We cannot forget or hide, but we must stay positive. “Maturite” is also a collection of songs with a strong message of hope not only for her country and Africa, but for the entire world as well. Singing in English, French and in her native Gouro, a language from the mid-west of Cote d’Ivoire, Fely addresses issues which are painful, yet with a profound sense of heart and personal connection.
One such is “En Louh” (I was fooled) a cry of a pain inflicted by a loved one, and a warning that listeners should pay attention to those closer to us than our enemies.
Her outstanding_ arrangements and the masterful playing of her backup group of talented musicians makes this album a truly evocative recording. “Maturite” was recorded in the U.S, at Jerry Martin Music Studio in Walnut Creek, California and mastered by the legendary engineer Paul Stubblebine in San Francisco. For world music aficionados, this album is a must have in your music collection.

Participants in this recording are Jerry Martin, John Burr, Abou Diarassouba, Paul Sonnabend, Robert Quintana, Eddy Raminez, Freddy Clarck, Beatrice Poulot, Teddy Shwar, Serge Bile, Patrick Andre...
