ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Festive Music for Ceremonies

Choosing music for your wedding or other special event can be as delightful as choosing decorations and flowers. The search possibilities on the internet are abundant and present many options. This recording presents samples of some of the most beloved sacred ceremonial music ever written. My sister Diana and I have planned hundreds of services over the years and we have chosen some of our favorites, presenting a variety of moods and styles for this sampler.

For a wedding ceremony, one couple might prefer their music consist of familiar festive tunes, while another might select music that is unique and hauntingly distant. This is a sampling of everything in between those two extremes. One bride might wish to start the wedding off with a flourish while another might wish to begin with a more reserved tone build to the fireworks at the end of the ceremony. Keep in mind, almost any classical or popular piece you like can easily be arranged for trumpet and organ, or for piano and other instruments, such as flute or violin.

Several pieces in this recording could serve as either processional or recessional. For example, a choice of a stately processional might be or Clarke’s Prince of Denmark March (sometimes called the Trumpet Voluntary) or the Reiche Fanfare followed by the Mouret Rondeau. Beethoven’s Ode to Joy might follow as a congregational hymn. Special Music might include Schubert’s famous Ave Maria or the beautiful Whispering Hope. Bach’s Bist du Bei Mir (If Thou Art with Me) is a good choice if a candle lighting ceremony is included. Recessionals are generally a bit faster than processionals. Henry Purcell’s Trumpet Tune is an ideal choice, but Mouret’s Rondeau also works well. Some prefer a beautiful but not so well known selection, like the Martini Toccata or Telemann’s Air de trompette.
