Album Notes
Chambery: “chamber-y.” Six chamber music pieces by Tobias Klein: a trio, four duets and a solo piece, all with bass clarinet. A duet by Enno Poppe rounds out the program.
One of the hallmarks of Tobias Klein's music is the ambiguity which arises from approaching a subject from multiple viewpoints, thus putting it into a wider context. Often it’s about rhythm or meter, but also about harmony and melody. On bass clarinet and contrabass clarinet: Fie Schouten, a Amsterdam-based specialist in performing new music with a warm preference for playing on the low clarinets. Schouten can be heard extensively as a soloist and in many different formations. Fie Schouten and Tobias Klein are the founders of the biennial bass clarinet festival titled ‘Basklarinet Festijn’.
