ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Five O'Clock Shadow was among a handful of all-vocal bands to make extensive use of effects (generally reserved for guitar players) to create vocal textures that were seldom heard before. The Recorded A Cappella Review Board (RARB) said, "Wonders of the World was one of the major professional albums to advance the distortion-pedal sound that quickly characterized vocal bands."

The album primarily features the songwriting of David "Stack" Stackhouse (also the beat-bass of the group). The title track (Wonders of the World), Few and Far Between, and Rhymes with Orange have become well known within the a cappella scene as staples of the "vocal band" sound that began in the late 90's, early 2000's.

Five O'Clock Shadow spent quite a few years touring the U.S. with their educational vocal program titled, The Vocal Challenge, which "challenged" students to make new and interesting sounds with their voices while also capitalizing on the choral and a cappella nature of the voice. As a result, countless high school and collegiate groups have been influenced by this concept.
