Album Notes
The Flowerthief is a four-piece rock band from San Diego, CA. They were formed in 2008 by singer-songwriter and guitarist, Christian Motos.

To promote the release of his debut album 'Half'(2007), Christian enlisted the help of drummer Ben Kent, and bassist Ashley Nikolin. Together they quickly established themselves as one of San Diego's finest live acts. Amidst the excitement, the band began recording their follow-up only to be halted by Ashley's sudden departure and was soon replaced by Carissa Aguayo. Carissa's inclusion to the band became what some regard as the classic line-up to date. To satiate the demand for new music, the band hastily recorded their '4am' EP. Released in 2009, the EP showed hints of musical maturity and yielded the song 'Late'. Like 'Whiskey & Gin' from the previous record, 'Late' became a crowd favorite inciting sing-alongs on every show. For the remainder of 2009, the band performed heavily in support of the EP, and to road test new material. In the spring of 2010, the band entered the studio to record their long-awaited 2nd album. With the help of producer Michael Kiner, the band put together what Christian described as " made by three talented musicians at the top of their game." 'Without A Safety Net' was ushered to the world May 22nd, 2010. The new record sees the group combine their folky 'skiffle' sound to rock. Boasting with musical eclecticism, many of the songs still make use of Beatles influenced melodies, and whispered Cagean soundscapes.

Without a Safety Net

"Flowerthief frontman Christian Motos has a crystal-clear voice that’s perfect for jangly power pop ( la Paul McCartney and Ben Folds). The ’60s vibe laid out on most of these songs begs for a little more vintage echo to set the mood, and at times Motos wears his influences on his sleeve (see the Strokesian “Favourite Pill”), but overall this is a really solid set of melodic and catchy pop tunes."
—Shae Moseley, San Diego Citybeat

To date, the band's been polishing up an album's worth of new material live and will get back in the studio this summer.
